Heute waren insgesamt drei hungrige Mäuler an den »Näpfen« und sie waren mit zwei Dosen Katzenfutter zufrieden. 😀

Obwohl es die erste längere Tour (nicht ganz 13 Kilometer) mit dem Tretroller statt des Fahrrades war, hatte ich an alles gedacht. 😄

On display this morning, parliamentary scrutiny at its very best with @chionwurah.bsky.social@bsky.brid.gy and her committee questioning Secretary of State Liz Kendall about the STFC funding cuts. Worth watching in full, but here are some of the highlights!

1: Doctoring the minutes!

Flight school. Our young storks still do not dare leave their nest for the first time, but they've advanced to hovering.

The other two siblings have to keep their heads down because there is only one helipad and its also where everybody eats their food delivery and sleeps.

At least they've soon learnt how to poop over the side. Should really move the compost heap under there for all this free phosphorus.

Meanwhile the parents are either out collecting food or perching on a nearby chimney or hay bale.

We've gotten used to the *whomp* when they take off from or land on our chimney hood at night.

There was a report last year exploring how children in the UK get about in their area. The report highlighted something similar to what you describe. Looks like an equity issue rather than one of preference.

The Nuggets are slowly getting used to the new place. We got them new collars, and they're back to their playful selves. The one downside is the zoomies at 3am that don't let us sleep.

Dessert is one of those international words you’ll find across many languages. The French verb desservir referred to something like the removal of plates after a meal—pretty specific, right? Even when some languages don’t use the French word directly, they often keep the idea of “something served after.” For example, Finnish jälkiruoka literally means “after food”. Other languages focus on the sweet side of the experience: Turkish tatlı and Slovenian sladica.

Under Ice

Gullfoss is a popular waterfall, usually very busy with tourists arriving by the busful.

In March, following a heavy snowstorm, we were almost the only ones there. The path down to the lower viewpoint was closed but some people had still risked it, evidenced by the footprints.

Both wearing warm clothes, carrying spiked hiking poles, and fitted with crampons, we made our careful way along the upper platform. The view was simply astonishing.

On May 28, 2025, Namibia held its first Genocide Remembrance Day, honouring the tens of thousands of Herero and Nama people killed by German colonial forces.

In 2021, the German government had formally acknowledged responsibility for the colonial-era genocide against Namibia’s Herero and Nama peoples more than 100 years ago.

It was the first such atrocity of the 20th century, committed between 1904 and 1908 in the name of Imperial Germany in the territory known then as German South West Africa. As such, many historians now see it as foreshadowing the Nazi Holocaust of World War II.

But Herero and Nama people, who have long asked for reparations, say the compensation on offer does not truly reflect the suffering of the tens of thousands who died – through ethnic cleansing, disease, starvation, imprisonment and torture.

Apple: you should update your phone for security reasons! It's important!

My phone only has 64 GB. 26 GB of that is currently used for the OS and whatever system data is. So that leaves 14 GB for everything else..
