Recently though, I've felt like a lot of what I've been working to overcome is starting to pay off. I feel like I can take on the world again. I feel stronger and wiser.

An excellent thread here. So much of what I see people pointing to as LLM's benefits for coding relates to long-standing problems in software engineering that the field just hasn't addressed. And LLMs don't solve these problems, at best the just paper them over and make dealing with them less tedious -- while reinforcing the problematic dynamics.

So yes it's great that people with no programming skills can create software to solve their prolems. But if we had collectively spent a chunk of the literally billions of dollars that are going to "AI" building on the early approaches to this from 25+ years ago (Hyperscript, Logo) that don't have the same downsides, we'd be in a much better place today.

I don't think Apple believes in AR/VR enough to create new product categories on belief alone. I think they made the Vision Pro and the new glasses just to keep Meta from dominating any hardware space.

I hope this new CEO is a Meta-hater as much as Tim Cook.

Do y'all talk to yourselves? If I need to give myself a pep talk, or if I'm upset about something but I also have a reasonable retort, I will straight up hold a monologue to myself. Lol

I think it's helpful to get out of my mind and verbalize stuff sometimes. I'm my own little cheerleader and rational friend.

I may write more about this one day. The past couple of years I've learned to show gratitude for the ways people show up for you, even if it's not how you need them to.

Today, an unknown bot swarm started using my name, boosting my posts, and inserting itself into communities I helped create. I treated it like any other potential attack and started defending myself and our communities as best I could. This has taken up more of my day than most malicious bot attacks, because it had the air of legitimacy—despite taking the actions of a threat.

When the owner, @evan ¹, came in with the same justifications as the porn-scrapers and LLM-owners I regularly fight against—repeatedly doubling-down in the face of backlash²—I felt more and more sure of my response.

I now feel justified in calling for a #FediBlock of tags.pub (and probably his other projects), at least until a better opt-in consent model is built into the project.

¹ I'm including his name as he's a public figure associated with Activity Pub, and our whole conversation today is already a public record, but please don't dogpile; just defed or block as you see fit and call it a night (or day—I'm not your mom).

The anticipatory-based anxiety really did a number on my body, me thinks. Sleep deprivation led to poor eating which led to feeling worse. It's a snowball.

So, I'm going to reward myself by eating nutrient rich foods and drinking lots of water.

Ugh, I hate that I'm at the age where I must think twice before getting a bacon egg and cheese biscuit. 😭

But I'm grateful to have the resources too eat better, and so happy this shit is almost behind me.

I've been in a remarkably good mood today lol.

I'm starting to get what's called "shadow" headaches which is a very mild, almost neutral feeling where the cluster headaches normally occur. Also, tightness around the neck and a bit of "first bite syndrome."

These are good signs that this cycle is coming to an end and my cluster headaches will go back to hell.

I hate that the idea that we should all be kinder to each other has been co-opted by the worst people.

It used to be this subversive thing that came with showing kindness to those in the margins, like when Mr. Rogers shared a pool with a Black man.

Now, kindness is more about shutting up and ignoring atrocity in favor of being polite.

Without fail, when someone says we need to be kinder to each other, what they really mean is poor people need to die quieter.

Not a single mainstream politician is advocating for media literacy education or privacy laws.
