This is HUGE because being prescribed a controlled substance means you're put in a database with the DEA.

This means any trans person prescribed testosterone is in a database and can be targeted by our transphobic government.

This is protecting trans folks in addition to making it more available.

Clarification: This doesn't end this database, as it's still federally controlled. It IS however, a huge step forward if other states adopt this.

I think the biggest blind spot in FOSS is that for most people most of the time, computers aren't liberating or empowering at all, they're just in the way. They're an unwanted layer of complexity that's been forced into the gap between them and whatever they're trying to get done.

We've had a chance to microdose on that experience with the proliferation of silly IoT widgets - wtf is this, why is there a computer here I'm trying to make toast - but IMO haven't really absorbed the core lesson.

I'm crying a little just posting about it.

There's a deep ocean of tangled emotional shit just beneath the surface.

But you often feel like you're not allowed to be yourself, you have to wear the cat ears and be silly for people to like you, and if you take a risk on exposing your real feelings through art or whatever, you cut your own legs off in front of them so it won't hurt when they don't care.

"Hey, I did I thing. But it's no big deal. You don't have to look. It sucks. LOL."

Suppose you *could* through constant labor, strenuous planning, & deprivation manage to feed yourself & your family on a tiny budget, that would still be extreme poverty.

I hate that people who aren't in poverty try to explain to those who are "no, really, you can survive. You just need to find a way to suffer a little more."

The problem is not a lack of ingenuity & creativity. The problem is poverty. No one should have to struggle every moment of every day just to live.

at a conventional shop i also found a couple more things

there was a TCL/TK manual which i ultimately left because it was 95% API reference... whereas this is more of a prose text that provides insight into a snapshot of what folks were thinking around that time, which is what actually interests me more than a pure record of the "what"

AI contributions have the added pain of being demoralizing. Reviewing PRs is already tedious work, but it is rewarding because reviewers generally feel that their efforts are contributing to educating a new contributor (who may become a future maintainer/reviewer). If your feedback on PRs is just being absorbed by a machine and not going towards mentoring a potential future maintainer, it becomes much harder to justify spending your free time on PR review.
