One of my big pet peeves is when people say "people used to ..." and they describe something well-off or only wealthy people did in the past. "but nowadays people just..." and they describe something poor and broke people do today.

We don't have as much documentation of how poor people lived in the past... so in a way we don't know how poor people lived as clearly.

I said that Mamdani adding 580 new cops was going back on an important campaign promise if the 580 cops were incremental to the current NYPD headcount of 35,000.

The new budget just came out, and they hired 580 more cop roles, but kept HC flat at 35K.

If you create 580 new police roles, but keep HC flat at 35K, then 580 police roles will have to be eliminated somewhere else.

Over the past few years I've gone from what I called "kosher pescatarian" (no shellfish, fin and scale fish, avoid bottom feeders) to having some beef when I crave it, which has been when loved ones have died*, and their subsequent birth or death days. I think I shall call this Traumnivour.

I'm going to sleep. If anyone is wondering why the #inkscape website is down, it's because it's being crushed by AI bots again, so I've taken it offline.

I tried to put in more ip-blocks, and then tried to install Anubis. But I'm not a sysadmin and so this is just taking time to do. Can't do much of it tonight (this morning) so I'm afraid it's staying offline.

Edit: Thanks for the help from @thomzane getting the server back online. It appears to have been Facebook attacking.

@Extelec I bought this print many years ago at a charity auction. It hangs in my office where my students can see it. It sparks a lot of conversations. My memory is that the artist was working as a public defender or some similar capacity in NYC.
