The Romanian #tallship came through at sunset and the colors were beautiful 🤩
MIRCEA, a 269-foot, three-masted barque, is homeported in Constanta, Romania, on the Black Sea. With 23 sails and sail area of 18,837 square feet, she has 80-89 personnel and 120-140 cadets. She was built in 1938 in Hamburg, Germany, for the Romanian Navy. A sister ship of Eagle, Gorch Fock, and Sagres.

Last week I photographed the Sebastián de Elcano the Spanish Navy’s beautiful training ship at the #BayBridge heading up the #Chesapeakebay
….this weekend I got to climb aboard and share my photos with some of the crew. She’s even prettier close up!
They set sail from Spain on January 10th! They leave for New York on Monday morning.

I’ve been following the tall ships as they arrive in the Chesapeake Bay heading for #baltimore When I got home this afternoon I saw that Spain’s, Juan Sebastian de Elcano and the Lady Maryland were heading up the #Chesapeakebay …….luck would have it….right off my little beach! I grabbed my camera and took off in the rain. I was only able to get one blurry shot of the Lady Maryland. The rain cleared as the Juan Sebastian was approaching the #BayBridge . I hope to catch other #tallships over the next couple of days as they head into #baltimore for the 250 year celebration.

Did you know that at the base of one of the pilings of the #Chesapeakebay #bridge there’s a pile of rocks locals call “Bird Island.” On any given day, you’ll find an entire community of birds nesting together on that little rocky footing beneath the bridge. Surprisingly — there are now brown pelicans there! From what I’m told, it’s unusual to see them this far north, which makes it feel even more special. So the next time you’re crossing the bridge, remember there’s a whole other world living quietly below, under the bridge 🌁
