Protesting LLMs by refusing to use any software that includes them feels like attempting to protest the introduction of tetraethyl lead into gasoline by refusing to breathe until everyone stops putting it in their cars. So I am drawing my personal moral lines in such a way that I will probably accept this.

But please don't mistake this for excitement about huffing a bunch of vaporized lead.

Of course, if you treat July 4th as being about the country rather than just its military, you're ultimately forced to confront the fact that America is complicated, messy, and diverse.

And these games, you know, they didn't just have rulebooks, they had *designer* notes.

And they were absolutely fascinating to me.

Game designers would talk about what decisions and compromises they made, and why they made them, and how legitimate, or not, how *faithful*, or not, they thought their finished game was.

1. Because it's become a symbolic rallying point for focusing attention on Trump's fecklessness; it's about more than an algae bloom.

2. Because it's OK for people to post about whatever they're going to post about, and there's simply nothing you can do to stop it. You'll just look like a humorless scold if you try.

Was just talking to a friend at a US technology company, they’ve had their budget reduced by 50% as the company says it wants to announce “the largest layoffs in US corporate history” to prove GenAI can replace jobs.

There’s no plan to actually replace the jobs with GenAI.. they just have to decimate their area.

Not naming company as the staff don’t know they’re about to fed to the line going up.

An under-16s ban means making every adult prove they're over 16 for access.

The data shared for age verification can also be used by platforms and the wider data broker ecosystem to send you ads and customised content.

It's a policy that fuels the very business model that generates online harms.
