Whenever I see the word "intelligence" in a headline
I replace it in my mind with the word "charisma"
They're both poorly defined aggregates of properties of a person that are often referred to collectively
And it helps me to see through the way that we've been trained to see intelligence as equivalent to moral status or worth
What if intelligence is real the same way that charisma is real?
Sure, some people have more or less of it than others, but at the end of the day, it's a poorly defined aggregate of personal characteristics that doesn't define one's worth or moral status and trying to put a number how much one has is a fundamentally wrongheaded way to think about it and will only lead you into paradoxes
(But in the case of intelligence, people keep trying to do it for reasons historically related to eugenics)
So, there's a sort of summer camp in my Uni about #gamedev with "help" of AI tools (ugh).
The main prof asked my help about mentoring. I said that I would only help with things not AI related. I don't, and won't use AI. He said OK.
There are some speakers that will present. Most of them AI. The prof asked me if I want to give one. I told him bluntly "only if its about reason against genAI". He agreed!

If I were going to outright ban remotely hosted autocomplete, I'd need to list out which models I permit, right?
Thinking of how to word #Lisien's own policy against AI contributions. The Godot one seems...fine... although I'd really like some way to restrict the autocomplete to something that doesn't serve Sam Altman's interests
Maybe "local models only" would be adequate for that purpose? Then again, getting a local model confused for a remote hosted one seems easy to do, and banning a contributor who does that feels petty
How about an inverse approach, like in the code of conduct? Autocomplete isn't banned banned, but we encourage you to use models you control, and to help other contributors to do the same

1) Pull all the curtains closed. Reflect sunlight away from the windows. Tape up a bedsheet or something if you don't have curtains or blinds (not that rare in the Netherlands)
2) Open windows on opposite walls of the house, prop open the interior doors with something heavy, get a cross-breeze going. (Yes, the curtains may get flappy. I tucked the end of a long one under my bed mattress to mitigate this)
3) Take a quick shower with water that is only slightly warmed (neither ice cold nor steaming hot). Do this two, three, four times a day if you have to.
4) Similarly, drinking water that is ice cold may sound good but it's liable to give you stomach cramps when you're very hot. Your drinking water shouldn't be more than slightly cool.

I’m really good with Python (I’ve been using it for 16 years) and other high-level languages. I’ve also worked with React, Redux, Django, and other web stuff like that. I’ve at least dabbled in pretty much every type of development and I think I could learn each of them pretty fast if need be. I’m very experienced with Windows and I can get by well enough on Linux
I think I could comfortably do any kind of development-related work, and to be honest I could probably figure out sysadmin or networking stuff too, but I’m honestly open to any type of work! I’ll take anything that pays a livable wage
anyway please let me know if you have any job leads for me, or can put in a good word for me somewhere! it would help a ton. I desperately need some kind of income
edited to add: I’m in DFW, Texas, but I might also be able to travel somewhere else if it means having a job long-term (and I’d rather live somewhere other than Texas anyway)

A friend just shared this advice with me, in a conversation about a tough situation she's dealing with, and I wish someone had said this to me when I was very young (instead of implicitly and explicitly telling me the opposite, as is common for people socialized as female).

I feel like this approach to metafiction is self defeating, because of the way fandom works. So maybe it's more accurate to say that fandom is self defeating?
All those theories about how the Circus works, and what the characters might do about it, never mattered much. That's not an easy pill to swallow if you enjoyed the theory-crafting, and especially if your conception of yourself is invested in those theories, the way Cain's invested in his adventures
The show doesn't even tell you to stop theory-crafting, really! One of the last images is of the characters around a table, playing an RPG with a couple d20s. The show's saying: if you want more, then make it yourself. Like this.
It's not exactly subtle that the show is about a queer roleplaying group, right? With a power tripping game master
We're given the framing device of the Circus being in a computer, and that's played for horror, but it's only really there in order to make the show happen, and by the time you finish watching, you're supposed to care about the humans who play these characters, not the characters themselves
Like how Evangelion wasn't really about mecha fighting monsters
In that light, the fact that the characters never really solve any of their problems makes sense, because roleplaying can't actually fix you. It can keep your friend group together, though
The racists are trying to take over InternetNZ again. InternetNZ is a not-for-profit who regulate part of the internet here in Aotearoa. They do a bit more than the minimum. They could do more. Even that little angers the racists.
