myself and many other Emacs users don't have a lot of faith in GNU at this time; the ethically sound policy is very simple, and we feel that if they were going to the right thing, they would have done it by now

with that in mind, in the event that they do allow LLM code in Emacs, we will continue to use and develop a separate version of Emacs which is not contaminated

Some days we have no power, others no reception, once in a while we have neither. Today was such a day, the oppressing low skies suffocating the signal and covering our solar panels didn't allow for much virtual fussing.

But while penciling out storyboards for our #Catjam entry, Rek pointed out that it might be nice to have a Yufo cameo aboard the train. Genius idea! Let's look at the actual state of that ol' thing.

Written in a haste during the Virtual Pet Jam a few years ago, its codebase was horrendous; Uxn was quite young at the time, the linter in its infancy too. It ran just fine but needed a bit of love if the codebase was ever going to be something worthy of being looked at by anyone.

So, I spent the little power I had left in my laptop rewriting it all in a more standard Uxntal style, with the typical video game OOP patterns that makes the more recent roms somewhat robust. It runs faster, looks and feel nicer too. I've published a new build with metadata and all the other niceties of modern #Uxn projects.

If anyone ever asks who that weird antlered creature on the train is, at least we can be proud to point to Yufo.

Bittorrent is a protocol for sharing large fixed files that takes advantage of the upload bandwidth of those who are trying to download a copy of the file.

To take a simple and safe example, libreoffice is a relatively large application so they have torrent links on their download page.

after you download the torrent file it should load into the torrent downloader application which will connect to a "tracker" server to see what other computers that have parts of the file you're interested in to download from.

But your computer will also announce to the tracker what parts you have and someone might download them from you.

For things like free software downloads or archives of big things like wikipedia this is all totally fine.

peertube internally uses bittorrents to help share the load of distributing the video file, so if one video became popular others watching the video can share parts so the primary host doesn't get crushed needing to serve more data than what the cheap server can support.

However people often want to share commercial movie, music, and tv files and because the default behavior of bittorrent shares your IP address, a motivated company can force your ISP to turn over your account information over to the law suit happy media companies.

It's not going to do it for free. They're selling you the ability to program. One of the main reasons you should learn to program is so no one can take it from you, or charge a fee for doing it.

I hope most of you have heard about the horrible earthquake that happened in Venezuela towards the end of June.

Thousand of people die. Many more are yet to be found. Entire settlements have been totally destroyed.

A person very close to me wrote and share these posts on social media in which they poured their heart. They also added links for donation to some of the people of the ground who're working no-stop in these days as well as international orgs.

If you're in London, there are also in-person fundraisers and more practical aid events happening.
