So in conclusion, the carbon tax was just an inconvenience for oil company profits. It at least funded some alternative energy development but it ate into oil company profits a little. It’s fine now.

War is much better because the taxpayer pays for it and the companies get all the revenue.

Win-win! Other than when these ghouls stand at the Pearly Gates trying to justify how profiting from illegal war, climate devastation and genocide made them good “nation builders.”

Alberta wants a high price for their oil. Oil companies love it. Oil company owners love it.

So while you’re struggling to fill your tank at 2.15 a litre and the added fuel costs are added to everything else we buy remember that the champions of Canada’s Economic Engine need you to belaying through the nose for their energy, and a few wars don’t hurt either.

Why we create music

I am so grateful that I can make music. It's a language that allows me to speak in the pure vocabulary of emotion with people. It allows me to relate to people in a way that is totally different from every other form of social interaction, even sport, which comes closest.  And it allows me to connect with myself as well.

Farewell to Europe

Tottenham 3 (5) v 2 (7) Athletico Madrid It might be the last Spurs match in Europe for a while. Having navigated the league stage of the Champions League with style, Spurs were dire in the round of 16 versus Atletico Madrid.  Last week in Madrid a series of goalkeeping mistakes from Kinsky and then defensive lapses from everyone else put us down 5-2 in the first leg.

William Lindsay's daily threads are good roundups of the history that is unfolding around us as a small group of compromised and deeply unwell narcissists kill people through intent, neglect, cruelty, glee, and sheer ignorance.

I'm hoping Trump's presidency ends soon and I'm hoping that his legacy will be a general and lasting rejection of populism in all its guises.

But I am not optimistic in the least about that. I believe that the US political system has been too compromised by manipulation and corruption to ever be something like that.

But at the very least, it would be good to get the killing to stop. With the USAID cuts, the wars and the persecution of immigrants, this administration has ended the lives of 100,000s of people. They rank amongst the worst people I've ever seen govern in my lifetime. And they are the worst Americans by far.

One of these is "the shortest distance between two people is a story," a line that I learned years ago from Patti Digh. I read Patti's blog daily and today she evoked the line again, talking about the connections that were made in a weekend long creative writing workshop.
