Asking for a friend (really!) who plans to move to a new city and wants to know which areas are most susceptible to noise from aviation.

Yesterday, a trip to the Rhön Mountains led us to the Grenzturm Grabenweg (Grabenweg border watchtower), a preserved border watchtower from the former inner-German frontier, located in the Rhön Mountains at the intersection of Bavaria, Hesse, and Thuringia. As part of the extensive border security system that once divided East and West Germany, the tower functioned as an observation point within a restricted and heavily controlled landscape.

I fixed a stupid CSS bug and now Open Context is properly falling back to a "noto" font for use with ancient scripts. Here's a nice example of Etruscan, with the unicode getting rendered correctly. It reads (something like):

It's interesting because it's written on a fragment of a rochetto (a spool), which is an everyday implement used in textile production.
