Like seriously, America had one job: “free country”. It seemed like a thing we all agreed upon here.
Donald Trump turned it into a police state.

Donald Trump turned it into a police state.
Donald Trump’s legacy will forever be turning America’s 250th anniversary into one which makes Americans ashamed to be American and more certain than they have ever been in their entire lives that the country is careening for disaster.
This July 4th I’m ashamed to be an American because my country isn’t free.
A climate crisis-fueled shitstorm raining down on DC seems appropriate right now.
Happy 250th, America, we’re #1. Biggest carbon emitter now and forever, no one will ever usurp that from us. We will live in infamy forever.
@ai6yr you need a Joy Division & some unknown pleasures
Heat pumps may soon outsell air conditioners in US
For years, heat pumps have outsold gas furnaces in the U.S. — and now the superefficient appliances are coming for conventional ACs, too.

Watching a video about America’s bicentennial which took place in the slightly more normal times of a couple years after Nixon resigned following Watergate, and the tail end includes thousands of people becoming citizens in in one of the largest naturalization ceremony in the history of the country, and how awkward that seems given our current circumstances
Once again, you can try to ignore the climate crisis but that doesn’t make it go away…
“CANCELED: America's Independence Day parade called off over extreme heat”
Organizers of DC's America's Independence Day Parade canceled as heat is expected to reach between 110°F and 115°F (43-46C)
I've seen a lot of threads where Europeans are rebuking AC and calling out Americans for suggesting they need it, calling it a non-solution that makes the UHI problem worse, and suggesting the alternative is simply fans or better building designs.
Just keep in mind that past a wet bulb temperature of 35C / 95F, fans cease to be effective and hyperthermia begins. 6 hours of this, even for someone lying in bed indoors, is enough to cause heat stroke.
Vulnerable populations definitely need AC, and while others can tough it out to a point, eventually it gets so hot that ceases to be the case.
Heat is no joke! With love from the American Southwest
Overnight temperatures were near all-time record highs for cities in the Northeast last night. These warm nights and high humidity directly increase heat stress. The last decade has seen a significant rise in days with dangerous humid heat. #ClimateChange

Centrist Democrat energy is very much this right now #uspol

Colorado’s governor is Trump’s stooge #uspol
Been watching The Majority Report cover the meltdown centrist Democrats are having right now, and one of the common themes seems to be “the Democrats are what I say they are and that means they aren’t socialists!
And it’s like, they call themselves “democrats” but they really don’t seem to actually like democracy very much.
Maybe instead of lecturing the electorate they should recognize that members of their party are actually excited about candidates for thr first time since Obama.

Can we rename the EPA to the Environmental Poisoning Agency at this point?
"EPA approves fluorocarbon pesticides"
The Trump administration has approved three new pesticides that may be considered “forever chemicals” under an international definition

Gas plants for US data centers to be major source of climate change-linked emissions, report says.
Dozens of planned gas plants to directly power data centers in the United States could emit as much greenhouse gas annually as Australia or France, according to a report by an environmental group published on Wednesday.
The Environmental Integrity Project reviewed 74 gas-fired U.S. power plant projects proposed or planned to provide electricity directly to data centers, which would sidestep the process to connect to the U.S. electric grid. It estimated that they would generate 143 gigawatts of electricity and result in 662 million tons per year of greenhouse gas emissions.
“Over 95K acres destroyed as wildfires burn across Colorado.”
The state is a tinderbox due to the past winter-that-wasn’t and unusually low

With Europe and the US in the grip of atmospheric blocking events / “heat domes”, I’ve seen renewed interest in geoengineering/SRM.
A quick reminder that despite a lot of enthusiasm among laypeople, climate scientists are generally sour on the idea.
A very important detail people don’t seem to grasp is that while geoengineering/SRM could help lower the *mean* temperature, it could actually make extreme heatwaves / “heat domes” worse by disrupting the global circulation of air

Democratic socialists are still partying in New York City… 🎉
Wait — *checks notes* — sorry this is Colorado. Apologies! We got confused since we were told this only happens in NYC 😬 @melatkirosco.bsky.social@bsky.brid.gy

Oh joy, pre-auth libssh2 RCE.
Edit: fortunately it looks like sshd is not impacted, and it requires a malicious server for exploitation.
