The more I look into this, the harder the problem becomes. Mastodon is a dynamic system in which the file system and database are in constant flux a it sends and receives data to and from other instances, and as users make posts and comments.

This means that traditional backup strategies can miss important changes during the backup process, potentially resulting in an unstable instance if recovery becomes necessary.

My ISP recently changed my static IP, and it seems to be in a range that was until recently used by a data centre. This is causing problems with certain sites flagging my IP as being non-residential and either throwing up more captchas or blocking entirely. Anyone know if there's a list of IP metadata providers that I can contact to get this updated?

Data is stored on floppy disks by magnetically polarizing the oxide coating in tiny regions in one direction or another.

The polarization is along the planar axis of the floppy.

Think of having a number of bar magnets you arranged on a vinyl record, in concentric rings, all flipped one way or the other

Where these regions abut one another, the polarization abruptly changes. This is called a flux transition or flux reversal.
