In the 1990s, Jeremy Irons purchased Kilcoe castle - an abandoned XV century coastal tower in southeast Ireland. It was the last castle captured by the British in the XVII century.

At the time of purchase, there was nothing but ruins. After many years of relentless restoration, Irons turned Kilcoe into one of the few Irish castles that serve as permanent residence these days. Irons lives there with his family.

#Arcosanti is an experimental #architecture project by #PaoloSoleri in central Arizona. It is based on the principles of #archology - a mix of large-scale architecture and ecology.

Arcosanti was an attempt to demonstrate how we can minimize people's destruction of the natural environment while establishing an urban city. Currently, it includes 13 buildings.

However, the city is still incomplete. Originally planned for 5000 citizens, now it only accommordates between 50 and 150 people.

For today's #doorsday , a fun #psychology fact about the impact of doors on our #memory.

The #doorwayeffect is a short-term memory loss that happens when passing through a doorway or other boundary markers - both physical and imaginary.

Our brain categorizes memories based on events and locations. To become more alert and ready for new information, we "clear the cache" each time we step into a new territory.

That's why you forgot what you needed in the kitchen.

Borgund Stave Church is a 12th-century masterpiece of Norwegian wooden architecture.

Thousands of similar ore-pine stave churches and chapels were built around the time as a part of Norwegian transition to Christianity.

The church was built without a single nail; however, over 11,200 wooden dowel pins hold the structure together.

A truly amazing example of sustainable, durable, and heritage-enriching architecture.
