I am deeply sick of all the surveillance and want less surveillance in my life, and opposed to the KIDS Act HR 7757

"To try to avoid liability, services will have to determine which users are teenagers and which are not. Most won’t be able to simply trust their users. They’ll have to collect more information about age, before any lawsuit or government action arises. Some companies may respond by requesting driver's licenses or passports. Others will rely on age-estimation systems that attempt to guess users' ages by looking at existing activity or doing facial scans. Existing estimation systems make mistakes when estimating children’s ages correctly, which is a big problem when that is the population KOSA is trying to protect. And the systems fail more frequently for people of color, people with disabilities, and trans and nonbinary people."

I think requiring providing ID to access chat services will harm children's safety. The majority of rapists are people the children know, either family members are church members — not strangers. It is likely that banning teens from social media will harm children by preventing them from having support necessary to escape their abusers.
The Republican party is filled with rapists and child abusers.

Isolating children makes it more difficult for them to learn that what is being done to them is wrong.
As for the supposed "harms" of social media, when scientists have tried to study what kind of impacts social media has on teens, it's basically neutral.
"A meta-analysis of 226 studies in 2022 involving more than a quarter of a million participants found that the association between social media and feelings of well-being was "indistinguishable from zero.""

I believe that the age gating laws are part of the right wing's campaign to control what teens can learn about. I think they believe if their kids don't learn about queer people they wont turn queer.
For books librarians have identified that the right wing book banning campaign of primarily targets black history or LGBT people.
"PEN America has documented nearly 23,000 book bans in public schools nationwide since 2021, a number never before seen in the life of any living American. This censorship is being mobilized by groups espousing conservative viewpoints — and has spread to nearly every state— and predominantly targets books about race and racism or books featuring individuals of color and LGBTQ+ people and topics, as well those for older readers that have sexual references or discuss sexual
violence. "

"Project 2025 and the coalition of organizations tied to the Heritage Foundation-led effort. Much has been written on the Project 2025 and its so-called “proposals” to outlaw online pornography and deprive such speech of First Amendment protections. One of the architects of Project 2025, Russ Vought, was caught on hidden camera explaining how age verification laws could be used as a “backdoor” to adopt the demanded porn prohibitions nationally. Through this lens, the backdoor approach seems to be working, and those on the left wing further advance the efforts by further encompassing entire swaths of the internet that aren’t even remotely classified as pornographic and “adults-only.” The trade group representing many of these age verification companies has openly lobbied alongside many of these groups in favor of age verification laws."

The right wing will use the bans to censor black and LGBT history and college, this is a coordinate assault on the freedom of speech and freedom of association. Stop giving them more power to control the media and oppress minorities.
