What a load of absolute codswallop. I’ve been a Mac user for 20 odd years now, and use FOSS software on it every single day. It’s just as easy to install and use as apps from the Apple App Store

The fact that OS X (as it was back then) is effectively a unix with a pretty UI, and that there’s a vast amount of power and flexibility under the hood if you’re willing to find it, is what drew me to the platform and what still keeps me there.

Apropos of nothing at all, other than the conversation I'm overhearing: using generative AI for something tells me that, for that thing, you don't care. Maybe, after consideration, you decide it's okay not to care. That's up to you.

But if you think it's okay to use generative AI, I know you don't care about the thing and I know you don't care about the humans who do the thing. And I will judge you for it.

(And if I'm being honest, maybe there's times where that's okay? But you're still boiling oceans and taking other people's work without their permission.)

Looks like Boeing may be dealing with a rapid disassembly of their company-wide IT network. The company has published a notice on its employee emergency page that says they're canceling shifts at various plants and sending home people whose job depends on IT stuff to work.

I sincerely hope this isn't the beginning of another Jaguar Land Rover type incident where production is halted for extended periods.
