My #bgstats for June. I was surprised I had played so few different games, but in retrospect, yeah, almost all of my gaming sessions that month were reserved for Gazebo and Gingham. Since I just got my copies in relatively recently, they got a ton of plays, to the point that there simply wasn't room for much else.

@V in the extended-polycule group chat with a game-changing discovery

Game 3, vs. @V & Julera. In this game we learned that you can win in a decisive and very unfun way if you play hardball while your opponents play nice. Honestly that's the first thing about this game that I could criticize as a matter of game design; I don't like games where you can run up the score and then proclaim victory before your opponents catch up. That said, I expect this will self-correct now that my loves know not to let my path get longer unchecked.

Game 2 with @V, this time not the Dog-Safe Variant. I like when you can gauge from a photo of a game's end-state how hard-fought it was. Game 1 was, I'm told, less gentle than usual for Gingham. Game 2 blew that out of the water, mixing all the brutal complexity of Go with all the personal spite of Aboretum.

Played over tea and coffee in a park, so, keeping the picnic theme going. :)

First time playing #gingham. I had a great time with @V but my main takeaway is that if you're going to play this, you should suggest playing somewhere outdoors, & then grab a snack or drink just for yourself on the way out the door, to guarantee you win the first-player rule of "most recently had a picnic". I did this entirely by accident (thought it'd be nice to play on the building's terrace, & made an iced tea to stay awake), but I think I've invented a new meta for the future.
