I've released the new version of my Pico2 DRAM tester! This version adds some minor tweaks, including a new USB-C power connector.
@foone @mjg59 @quixoticgeek Perfect.
Before IBM adopted the CD-ROM standard, it briefly backed the earlier Programmed Optical Storage (POS), a proprietary six inch optical disc system incompatible with 5.25" drive bays.

I'm releasing my #OpenSourceHardware #SuperNintendo cartridge and programmer!
➡️ XiROM Cartridge: https://gitlab.com/doragasu/xirom-cart
➡️ XiROM Programmer: https://gitlab.com/doragasu/xirom-prog
The cartridge features are:
➡️ Support for HiROM (up to 32 Megabit) and ExHiROM (up to 63.5 Megabit)
➡️ Support for FastROM
➡️ Multi region SuperCIC implementation
The XiROM Programmer can, of course, program XiROM carts, including the SuperCIC firmware. It can also dump SNES standard cartridges.

The Apple II Plus laptop made from discrete chips that can run Total Replay is real and I touched it.
I have very conflicting feelings about this :D
A quick diagram I made for my friend!
This shows classic FF/REW/STILL bands of noise behavior on the VHS system and why it happens (misalignment between geometry of tape as "seen" by the video drum due to it moving during the rotation of the drum - this effectively causes the perception of tape to "skew")
The noise will generally be proportional to speed at which tape is flowing.
The first picture is bands of noise on the consumer VCR. The second picture is bands of noise on the studio VCR at an even higher tape flow rate.
Note that the studio VCR performs clever video head switching and buffering, so noise bars practically vanish. The residual error in color can be corrected by a good time base corrector.
The studio VCR uses full set of four video heads (SP/EP playback pairs) aligned in such way that at least one head is over a video track at any given time, minimizing the distortion.

The Sun Dreamstation was Sun Microsystems' brief and deeply confusing attempt to answer the question: What if a Sparcstation was also really good at Crazy Taxi?

Today someone (who is not on Mastodon) released a collection of more than 570 distinct operating systems, pre-installed with VM configurations for the 250+ different platforms, going back all the way to 1948.
Now, I have to admit I'm posting this without trying it myself, as I'm running low on disk space on this machine.
Because the full download is 121GB (174GB unzipped!). There is also a lighter version at 14GB that will download stuff on demand.
This is my grandad, he built the original R2-D2 for the first Star Wars film…
Jack was a master sheet metal worker, and was roped into using his skills on an obscure project to turn the sketches for the droid into something that could be constructed out of aluminium sheets.
I always knew he'd helped make part of R2-D2. However…
The earliest DOS source code was found on printer paper in Tim Paterson's garage so we've open sourced it on 86-DOS 1.00’s 45th anniversary! This is next-level software archaeology for preservation, and plain ol’ curiosity. #DOS #RetroComputing

Did you know that you can buy these funky little "flat" CRT displays on aliexpress for like 25 bucks? They run on 12V and take composite video input. Not sure what I'm gonna do with it yet but I'm tempted to create some kinda handheld game thing? Or a scientific calculator? Imagine how cool a little RPN calculator running forth or something would be!
Some fun photos from Large Scale Systems Museum near Pittsburgh!
Artemis II Commander Reid Wiseman took this picture of Earth from the Orion spacecraft after completing the translunar injection burn. There are two auroras (top right & bottom left) and zodiacal light (bottom right) is visible as the Earth eclipses the Sun.

While I was able to sort of stream from a #vintagemacintosh yesterday, I did fail at my #Marchintosh goal of streaming from my Quadra 950. If anyone has any very old versions of Avid Film / Media Composer prior to version 5.5 (under the old naming convention), please reach out!
