It's sad how low the Rust ecosystem have fallen. What was once software generally focused on stability, security and performance is now go-to choice for scum and slop machines.

It's insane that Apple's accessibility page doesn't even have a "skip to main content" button:

Gnome hatred very often has similar energy to prejudice towards marginalized groups. You have an entity that you strongly dislike the aesthetic of which is popular apparently only because corporations are pushing it, something that has “infiltrated the space” and you blame every single problem you have on it and want it gone.

If you don’t like gnome this doesn’t necessarily mean you fall into this category, everyone has preferences, but in general I think there is very clear reason why the desktop wars are inhabited so densely by right wing freaks who do nothing but sit on discord and run fastfetch

Screen reader users using a free and open-source calendar app on Linux, what do you use? I'd like to use one as a reference to make GNOME Calendar more screen reader friendly.

A while ago, I made a post where I made a rough calculation how much paid subscriber Mozilla would need to have, to be fully community funded. Let's review that question with a poll.

Mozilla spent $417 million in salaries and benefits in 2024 [1]. This number was $328 million the year before. Let's put this figure at $400 million. Let's add another $100 million in other expenses.

As per June 22nd Firefox had slightly over 200 million clients in use [2]. Both these numbers give us something to work with: it would take $2.50 a year per user to fund Mozilla. Of course not everyone is going to.

Assuming this would also make Mozilla community-driven in its development priorities, which I think is a reasonable assumption as who pays, decides, would you chime in with a monthly subscription?

Please share for some reasonable exposure.

He's been working on it for the last 2 years. It reuses the Evolution Data Server backend, combining its reliability with an adaptive GTK4+libAdwaita GUI.

It also handles contacts and calendaring (by embedding GNOME Calendar as a widget)! Future versions will allow using it not just as a PIM but also as a standalone mail app.

Ah shit, here we go again.

Because of the screen time limit on GNOME, I am able to keep myself from spending too much time on my PC.

It helps me balance my work life schedule, even if I want to release a new update of Shosetsu as soon as possible, my health matters first.

No more working into midnight, no more exhaustion, I can prevent myself from being engrossed unhealthly with my code.

Adding the optional pride theming to bazaar was the best thing I could’ve done to secure a worthwhile user base. Sure, it looks fucking awesome, but it also does this amazing thing where loser chuds don’t use my program. It’s a feature

Besides the initial outcry and some delusional rando emailing me an essay about how I’m the worst person ever for “forcing trans people to out themselves,” the amount of complaints/trolling related to the pride flags has dropped to basically 0. Lesson: don’t give abusive people even an inch

I read a little bit of My Accessibility Stack and the future on Wayland, but I personally couldn't continue. I got pissed specifically here:

The reason I'm really pissed about is because that is not at all that was said. If we actually read the linked comment from said GTK maintainer (Matthias):

As written, "maximalist lists of demands", not "accessibility maximalists". And to be honest, I do agree with Matthias. It's not uncommon to find accessibility-focused people asking to turn Wayland into a free-for-all protocol like X11. This is indeed a maximalist list of demands in the sense that it is unscalable because we'd essentially be turning it into abandonware with extra steps. This is, however, not calling accessibility-focused people out as "accessibility maximalists".

Still though, it hurts to read these kinds of articles. While I do believe that those who don't actively need accessibility features (including myself) should absolutely be more sympathetic towards those who do need them, I would really appreciate to have that kind of sympathetic feeling in return towards those who actually put in the work to make software as accessible as possible.

Accessibility is hard whether you rely on features or not; my needs are different than yours, and yours are different than others', so doing the research and inquiries to understand how someone else uses their computer demands exponentially more energy, arguably even tenfold. This is why we absolutely need people to engage.

Then:

> What it tells me is that Wayland as an ecosystem demands our participation, yet makes said participation either impossible (“oh, you’re an accessibility maximalist, I don’t need to listen to you”) or requiring multiple years of full-time work to move the needle ever so slightly forward (see: any major Wayland protocol written in the last five years).

Ignoring "accessibility maximalist" as it was addressed above, I will quote Matthias again:

This is simply because there is way too much to go through, that asking someone to make a list of accessibility improvements would literally ask them to write these lists for several hours for a couple of days. Matthias also refers to some information about them later.

This section I wrote last year, It’s True, “We” Don’t Care About Accessibility on Linux § It All Trickles Down to “GNOME Bad” applies here. The moment GNOME was painted in a bad light, people just started attacking GNOME, but yet "accidentally" ignored about the accessibility work and funding.

This goes without saying: I can't blame the author for misinterpreting it. It's just upsetting that it happened in the first place, and it has negatively tainted my perception of the article so much that I can't even read the rest of the article.

(And before people jump at me and point out that I completely missed the point: no, I didn't, that was essentially the point of the section.)

We introduced the label "Probabilistically Automated" to tag slop. It reads the following:

"Major or total reliance on artificial “intelligence” to generate code. Usually accompanied by a lack of proper testing, and finalizing patches based on theoretical intended behavior rather than correctness of code."

I went ahead and closed all three merge requests. Coincidentally, the amount of opened merge requests went down to 69
