My grandmother, shes a very brutal lady when it comes to constructive criticism.

She gives it blunt, and then asks what inwant tontell with it...

Euhm....

I was not aware about all the innuendo in this game

straight away we know and realize, that Evil has not been vanquished.

THAT Is a good Story telling Mechanic, as it adds to the overall story, because we knew the endig, without knowing it was the ending .

That is not really spoiling the ending, even though it was spoiled.

What i am Trying to say is, there is a thin line, and i just really dislike that we are on the "wrong" side of the line.

getting back to why knowing the end can be a good story telling mechanic, we can take a look at "Evil Dead Rise"

The movie opens basically with the story after this movies ending.

Why this works as a story telling mechanic, is because we see the main characters Triumph over evil... only to see the person from the opening, walk to her car for a weekend at the lake, where the movie cold opened.

The reason why this happens a lot has been studied.

its called the " mere-exposure effect"

Where the more is known, the more positively people tend to evaluate it.

And move exacs, want a favorable movie.
As those make money.

And before you say " But isn't that just like story telling like with Columbo?"

The answer is no...

IT is storytelling yes, Though its not the same, Doing this, is giving the " I need to know how it ends" people a handholding, its telling them "Don;t worry, this (likeable) Character will make it far, because you will scenes that's nothing like the cold middle open, so you know that they won't be killed in this scene.

its the same thing as spoiling a lot in the trailer,

They are different story telling, Mechanic, and in the "I bet you wonder how i got here" are mostly Middle points and not endings to movies.
I am not a big fan of them, But i can see their story telling.

This is by the way not the "Cold middle open" movies, where you see a character doing something, then cut to black after like they meet a masked killer, then cut to black.
And you then see that same character "3 hours earlier"
As those i really dislike with a passion.

now granted when i lived with my grandparents, we loved watching Columbo...
A tv show with Peter Falk. Where the viewer knew the killer from the start of the episode, and were we watching Columbo figure it out.

When he went "Oh one more thing" my grandad would always go "Oehw, he got you now"

The reason why i look fondly back at this show, is because it was the format of the show...
And that is different, just like how "I bet you wonder how i got here" movie openings are different

This is because when you get surprised by the ending, and watch it again, you will pick up on the story telling hints.

The same goes for books,

in one of the Karen Rose Series i read, knowing who was behind it all, would have lessened the impact of that reveal.

just like knowing that the killer in Scream 10 is Cotton Wearry who faked his death in scream 3, takes away the whole " Whodunit slasher" thing.
