Never had a lot of success w/carrots in the home garden, so no surprise they've been challenging at a larger scale.
TBH, I kind of gave up on them bc I was having such a hard time getting ok germination. "I'll figure this out next year," I said.
Joke's on me. Very first two rounds of carrots came due this week and while the rows are a bit sparse, there are more than I realized & they look pretty good!
Guess I'm planting more carrots this weekend.

Planning on trying Kenji's Chicago-style thin crust pizza this weekend. This recipe has you ferment the dough for a good long time, then roll it out and cure it overnight (or thereabouts).
Fun stuff.
So I'm mixing tonight, ferment in the fridge until early Sunday morning, then l'll roll and cure it, bake off for dinner that evening.
I like plans that include thinking about pizza well in advance.

Hi everyone, thought I'd make my first post here about my love of old books. I love original or close to original spelling. And one of the wonders of the internet is that I don't need to be rich or have access to an academic library to get such. There's so many free and legal databases.
Currently reading Hypolitus by Madame d'Aulnoy, bound with a version of Macbeth and possibly a version of The Tale of Two Lovers by Pope Pius II.
Erdrich's chapters often standalone and I could see someone reading this on its own and still being sucked in. But I think having read at least *Love Medicine* gives you a bit more insight to appreciate what's going on here, even if not absolutely necessary.
BC by this point in the series, those four characters are probably the most intriguing. But there's also a lot of mystery around them.
*Tracks* doesn't answer all questions, but it gives us some place to start.
Finished Erdrich's *Tracks* today.
What a book. Will jot notes later but this might be the best of the Love Medicine series so far.
Certainly the most haunting.
It takes us into the backstories of four of the most engaging characters in that world, up to this point in the chronology: Nanapush, Fleur Pillager, Sister Leopolda (!!!), and Lulu.
It also takes us into the backstory of that world more generally, esp. the effects of US federal gov't on Indian affairs, direct and indirect.

Hamelman's Oatmeal Bread (from *Bread*)
Started last night, bulk fermented in the fridge overnight, out to proof and bake this morning. Threw my morning off but probably worth it?
A few subs due to what I had on hand, so this riffed far out from the original recipe, but this was great! Looks dry from outside but is super flavorful and moist inside.
(I think I made this before, need to check.)
