Please sign this petition against a proposed AI data center in my home county.
“One of the world’s largest AI data centres is being planned next to Auchtertool village in Fife, Scotland. The height of six double decker buses and length of 100 football pitches. An estimated 20% of Scotland’s energy will be consumed by this.”
The number of Texas public #schools facing closure more than doubled from 2024 to 2025, rising from 22 to 50. In the first six months of 2026, #Texas school districts have voted to close even more schools—at least 55. https://www.texasobserver.org/school-closures-across-texas-not-local-failure/
Hey, remember when the RCMP shot a bunch of striking coal miners and their families in Saskatchewan?
Protip: If the Epstein Pedophile Class has traditionally been willing to kill you because you want breaks and safe working conditions, do you not think they are willing to kill you now via climate change?
Oh, about all those excess deaths we're learning about in the news from the heat waves. Weird, huh? Stop voting for the people who allow this. Why do you hate your children?
In a sure sign of freedom, a sailboat was removed from the parade of sail in NY today because of climate justice banners on the main.
Yup. Celebrating Independence Day by ejecting people from a parade for inoffensive signs.
Nice work.
@regehr The administration has been gutting anything to do with climate research, even going so far as to try to shutdown NCAR entirely (and repurpose its supercomputer modeling resources). This has substantially degraded weather forecasting in many ways. There’s a long wp summary at https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/NOAA_in_the_second_Trump_administration
Produced and directed by Ken Burns, Sarah Botstein, and David Schmidt,
“The American Revolution”
is a fantastic, six-part series that focuses almost exclusively on the war.
Burns and his team deftly use war narratives as a trojan horse to subtly
— and sometimes not-so-subtly
— smuggle onto viewers’ screens the message that women, slaves, and Native Americans also played vital roles in the fight for independence.
When “Revolution” was released last autumn, Burns made the rounds on Capitol Hill, cozying up to Republicans in ways that alarmed some critics.
From a purely strategic standpoint, he shrewdly played Washington politics the same way contemporary lobbyists do when building coalitions to protect their interests,
which in Burns’s case is ongoing federal support for PBS programming.
Although “Revolution” avoids mentioning Trump, its inclusive set of narrators and topics delivers an implicit corrective to the white-washed histories of the founding moment.
“Revolution” is Burns’s anniversary gift, carefully but not too obtrusively wrapped with a multicultural bow

A new report from Moody’s warns that the impact of the climate emergency is proving so hard to predict that the losses and damage caused by it are increasingly difficult to insure.

@davidho I'm concerned we're lacking data far back enough, to eliminate false flags from the data.
If we're in a rare 1 in 100,000 year contraction event, due to factors we have slim-to-none history of, then we may produce equally false solves, further crippling inherent agency.
We know human-caused climate change is loading the dice toward more extreme heat. Yet that context is still often missing from stories about heat wave risks. Today's temperatures are at least 5x more likely because of climate change.

Y’all remember a ways back when I said 3 major #egg producers were scamming the country, and that #avianflu was not causing the price surges, it was price fixing, cause I can do basic addition?
And industry executives and analysts were saying that there was nothing to see except a supply shock of a disease killing lots of hens. As one industry executive put it at the time, it’s all just “supply disruption, ‘act of God’ type stuff.”
Yeah. It was a #conspiracy to fix prices. Emails between each other writing down the damn conspiracy. They made billions. Guess how much they have to pay in fines? If you guessed less than 1%, you’ve been paying attention to the #kakistocracy.
Eat the rich.

@shonin Most local power companies are still deeply vested in fossil fuels, and have a wide birth in countermeasures favoring their profit margin, even more than previous to these adaptations.
This is where root cause analysis education helps. Fossil fuels is deeply rooted - especially in the US, and will take monumental opposition to uproot.
@jerrej Poetry scales to brutal, CRUNCHing hard facts. It, too, is a scale - as is EVERYthing between The Big Bang, and The Big Crunch.
The eloquent math lies in the scalar differential equations in between The Beginning, and The End.
Until you learn this, at multiple scales, you'll be nothing but a poet.
@gerrymcgovern Persistent, accelerating efficacy loss, at greater and greater scales, can lead to catastrophic loss, and even mass extinction.
Law of Inverse Proportion: root out the major MINOR cause - the wealthiest .01% abusers.
💁🏻♀️ TIL: 🌊🔥 #Ocean temperatures hit a record 21° C on June 21, 2026, driven by a strong #ElNiño layered over human caused #climatechange.
Scientists confirmed the new high, warning of consequences for #weather patterns, #sealevel rise, and #marine #ecosystems. Experts project 2026 could become the hottest year on record, with 2027 likely hotter still.

Trump has made more money from the presidency than any White House occupant in history. A piece dropping tomorrow digs into how and why the laws written to prevent exactly this have gone quiet at the moment they're needed most. And the Supreme Court end of term breakdown, including four justices prepared to overturn birthright citizenship, is worth catching up on too. Both at The Big Picture. https://thinkbigpicture.substack.com/p/week-big-picture-july-1
Wow. Those "far left radicals" are out here saying things like "democracy needs defending" and "every person deserves dignity."
Outlandish.
@ricci Keeps 'em within the Capitalism 'squeeze', with less organic reach in range, that produces too much resistance to abuses.
💁🏻♀️ TIL: 🏛️🔥 As record breaking #heatwaves hit southern #Italy, residents are turning to 14th century '#trulli' homes for natural cooling.
The #limestone structures use hydrothermal material properties and conical roofs to stay 7 to 14º C cooler than outside. Builders like Francesco Fragnelli in the Alberobello region say demand for both #restoration and new 'trulli' #construction is rising.

hmmm.... the good news is that Teachers have got a (roughly) inflation equalling pay rise (stabilising their current real income)...
the bad news is the Department of Education is requiring schools to find the first 1% (of the 3.5% and 3%) award each from their own budgets - which to be clear is essentially *another* cut to the schools budget - whatever the talk that may arise of 'efficiency gains', its a cut!
Austerity continues!
