Sunny afternoon so we decided explore Birchover and Winster. It didn't disappoint, both are lovely villages connected by a 1m footpath. In Birchover we went for a scramble round Rowter Rocks. It was so peaceful, not another soul in sight, a proper #silentSunday

The rocky outcrop has some natural caves and also some man made ones, hand chiseled and augmented with masonry. There are steps and carved stairways, tunnels and passages, pillars, altar stones, carvings, even a stone armchair

Heron drama. The heron had a rough time this morning. First it was mobbed on the sports field by a gull, who kept on dive-bombing it. So it flew into the trees, but that wasn’t enough. It came down to the river, and the gull followed, sitting a few feet way, just watching it. Finally it moved up the river a bit, then some person with a mobile phone got too close trying to photograph it, so it flew off again.

Love this projecting stained glass fanlight above the entrance to the Hat-Rack at 144 Saint Vincent Street in Glasgow. Designed in an Art Nouveau style by James Salmon Junior, the Hat-Rack was built in 1899. I love the screaming head below the window, too!
