So let me tell you about “Baby Sharking”. In #NYC, it is considered stunningly rude to play sound on your phone while you’re on a bus or subway. But sadly a few people do it anyway, and it’s also considered rude to confront them. So I have found a solution.

When someone is making phone noise (almost always scrolling TikTok) on the bus or subway, I stand next to them and blast “Baby Shark” on my phone. They can’t say anything, because they can’t very well say that I’m being any ruder than they are being. So 90% of the time they turn off the TikTok, put on headphones or leave. And then I immediately stop of course.

I encourage other New Yorkers to do this.

In 1964, Buster Keaton came to Canada to make his final silent film. It was The Railrodder, a 25 min comedic travelogue produced by the National Film Board.

NFB filmmaker Gerald Potterton had the idea of making a film about a man going across Canada in a motorized rail cart.

Keaton agreed to be in the film because he loved trains and wanted to experience riding the rails in Canada.

Production began in the late-summer of 1964, and the movie was filmed in chronological order from east to west. Keaton turned 69 during filming and did all of his own stunts.

Various towns across the country held celebrations and screenings of Keaton's films, and he was treated to dinners nearly every single day.

The film was released in October 1965. Audiences loved the film, which became a beloved classic. The NFB sold the TV and film rights to 43 international markets.

Keaton died on Feb. 1, 1966.

Also versions of "I'm leaving [uni where I did my undergrad] to one that doesn't have this problem". That's what I did. It's been good.

Imagine being a young singer in 2010, going to a music school and having them spend more than half the class time on responsible use of autotune.

You tell them you're not singing into microphones at all right now and you don't have a computer, you actually want to learn about scales, reading music, warm-ups, how to engage the diaphragm, voice box anatomy and building out a repertoire.

They tell you that before any of that you must learn how to use autotune properly and how not to use it, otherwise you'll be left behind.

All the exams are primarily testing that you're not using autotune to 'cheat'. You're not sure what you would use it to cheat at or what other thing you should be doing, because the only thing you've been shown how to do is interact with autotune. None of the teachers seem to know how autotune fits into singing, but they know it's equally naughty for students to use it and to refuse to use it.

This is what uni in 2026 is like.
