Before you fly new LiDAR, check whether someone already did. Denmark, Spain, and Poland publish their national data openly, and Germany's new federal program targets 40 points per square meter.

I mapped out 14 national programs across Europe by period and density, with sources for every number: https://tech.rohrba.ch/a-closer-look-at-europes-national-lidar-programs/?mtm_campaign=social&mtm_source=mastodon&mtm_medium=social&mtm_content=post2

i feel the root cause here is that computer security companies have eleventy billion trillion dollars to spend on vuln research, whilst your average open source project's security budget is ten bucks and a half-empty can of monster someone left in an office fridge

...then I compared the build timestamp with the information on https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-security/+archive/ubuntu/ppa/+build/33857942 which should be the exact build that I installed.

There is says (time of day added from the titles/tooltips):

Build status
Started on 2026-10-20 12:01:44 UTC
Finished on 2026-10-20 13:54:14 UTC

That's 1 day ago, not 2.

While upgrading PHP on Ubuntu to fix php2shell, the most confusing thing for me were mismatched timestamps.

One of my systems is running Ubuntu 26.04 (Resolute), so the fixed package is 8.5.4-0ubuntu1.5 according to https://ubuntu.com/blog/php2shell-vulnerability-fixes-available

When I run <?php phpinfo(); ?> to verify, the page does not show the full Ubuntu version number, only "PHP Version 8.5.4".

But there is a build timestamp: Oct 19 2026 14:35:18

That's two days ago, which seems ok because Ubuntu got the patch early. But...

Nun ja.

Typisch Kathi.

The #Firefox team is asking web developers which features they should be focusing on.

Please don't reply to this post ranting about Firefox stuff, I can't do anything about that and I don't want my replies to be full of moping.

And I only learned that by manual testing.

Because mdn, caniuse, the browser's UIs and their documentation all indicate that multiple languages would be reported in "navigator.languages" and/or the "Accept-Language" request header.

Some of them mention a few exceptions, e.g. Incognito Tabs or specific privacy settings, but none of them clearly state that the feature is basically non-existent for most users no matter what settings they use.

Whoa, wie cool! Ein 170 Meter langer Pool. Dort, wo einmal Gleise waren.

https://www.s2l.ch/gleispool-1

Today I learned that browsers do not only have the *option* to hide the user's preferred languages from websites, but that Chrome and Safari *always* hide all languages except the first one from websites.

Which means that their UI to add and re-order multiple preferred languages is mostly useless and definitely misleading.

And since those account for 85% of web users (across mobile and desktop, according to caniuse.com) it's no wonder that most websites don't use "navigator.languages".

#Caturday

A French wildlife photographer managed to film a sand cat in the Moroccan desert. The fluffy, big‑eared felid is considered one of the most elusive wild #cats in the world.

Encountering this #cat in its natural habitat is extremely difficult.
