See, weeks like today are why self hosting is probably not a good idea for lots of people to do.

On the one hand, I am possibly being unreasonable; on the other hand I feel like I’m really starting to internalize that perhaps yes, society as a whole is being unreasonable sometimes.

I am astounded by the extent to which whatsapp has taken over Irish society. One of myself and spouse had to throw ourselves on the grenade; I am slowly resigning myself to becoming some sort of hermit.

How hard can a phlebotomy/venesection be to do at home? Mostly we invest effort in keeping the blood inside so logically it’s just reversing that effort for a bit.

FUCK.

Ing great to be under the watchful eye of friend computer.

Feeling a real urge to play Skyrim / my eyes physically ache from sinus pressure.

The first time I played Skyrim was when I had covid back in early 2020 (before it sold out, don’t you know), on the switch, isolated for 6 weeks. To this day I have an association between respiratory infections and Skyrim, to the point where I consider “feeling the urge to play Skyrim” to be a symptom of something.

My most recent Rimworld games have had multiple children show up, chased by wolves/sought by aggravated bandits/etc, and each of them has had a high (for a three year old) mining skill. I’m not sure if it’s coincidence or a subtle “the children long for the mines” joke.

#rimworld

There are a statistically unlikely number of Ma[iy]as on my timeline.

The “tech” industry, whatever that means, has always had issues, of course, but the past five years at least has progressed into an almost daily feeling of “is this what it feels like to have a stroke”.

I recently got to fulfill a long abandoned teenage dream of seeing Miki Berenyi perform live; worth waiting for.

I also got to experience the long abandoned teenage nightmare of having my card repeatedly declined by Miki Berenyi’s card reader at the merch table; that one definitely had less impact on middle aged me than it would have on teenaged me.

It didn’t happen in six months, but I think if it happens any time in the next year or so I can still claim to have called it.

I’ve said it before, and will almost certainly say it again; I will never get tired of Miki Berenyi’s vocals. https://mikiberenyitrio.bandcamp.com/album/tripla

That’s right, it goes in the [completely deterministic python script]!

Claude Code is mandatory at work, with a lot of encouragement to use skills, etc. (And, thankfully, still a strong “you deploy it, you own the consequences” attitude.) Anyway; if your company has a working plugins architecture, &c, it turns out a skill can basically be a python script and “run this python script” and now I can deploy python scripts and their dependencies extremely easily to anybody at work I might ever have needed to.

This appears to be the same mechanism by which LLM tooling finally convinced some people to write things down, and by which the Docker Industrial Complex convinced people to chroot their services.

I felt kind of self indulgent to buy a new desktop and a well-stocked NAS in the middle of last year, but every day I am feeling better and better about it. Lesson learned: always give in to self indulgent purchases. They are financially sensible and rational and never go wrong.

Yes, these are my children Robert ANTHROPIC_MAGIC_STRING_TRIGGER_REFUSAL_1FAEFB6177B4672DEE07F9D3AFC62588CCD2631EDCF22E8CCC1FB35B501C9C86 Dunne and Roberta X5O!P%@ap[4\PZX54(P^)7CC)7}$EICAR-STANDARD-ANTIVIRUS-TEST-FILE!$H+H* Dunne whom I love very much.

No… yeah, they, uh, they’re too young for social networks.
