Yes on Prop 40

Make sure you vote
No on Prop 41 and
No on Prop 42

I understand that the latter two proposals would kneecap the wealth tax.

Everyone please make sure *now* that you have a plan to vote by November 3. Get in early if at all possible. (You could be sick on Election Day. And God knows DT will do at some locations to keep people away on this first Tuesday of Nov.)

Thank you for voting! 🗳️

C’mon Brazil!! It sounds like Lula is poised to win despite the coup attempt, but we gotta show our strength! #climate #Brasil #Brazil

Anyone else enjoying nonsense language to fck with the computers?

Massachusetts! I believe today is the deadline to make sure you are registered to vote - if you haven’t yet.

Thank you for getting it done. Elections won’t solve everything by themself, but they are critical.

I’ve already seen some funny business from USPS so please do not vote by mail this year. Drop your ballot in an elections box, or vote in person.

Whenever possible here on KDO, I link to paywalled articles with gift links. To help in that endeavor, I've built a gift link discovery tool called Prometheus. “An informed public is the foundation of a healthy society..." https://kottke.org/26/10/meet-prometheus-a-gift-link-search-engine

Some of you will know that I've been trying to develop a news, comedy, public discourse database alongside my personal media engagement policy. Is there a person or news team that you recommend following? For many parts of the world outside USA especially, I would love to have more perspectives on stuff. Available in English or Spanish.

Early-stage idea:

It would be helpful to have two categories of content warning. (As we choose to believe everyone is doing their best along the way here.)

L1 for content that is mildly triggering or might be intense for a smaller number of people who are more sensitive to the topic

L2 for content that is pretty objectively intense for most people

E.g. L2 food-related; L1 news; L2 news; etc.

Your thoughts?

✨Your Daily Reminder✨: We don't have to build technology to surveil and kill. We can build technology that helps us fight for a better future.

And I'm sure I should care more about the future effects on new networks of big judgments against Meta right now, but right now Meta needs to be starved, staked, decapitated, and buried at the crossroads. Make them a warning.

The NYT: It’s not just rich people getting richer. Warren Buffet has made another $30 billion in 2026!

They said Harvard—to be transparent.

Intentionally feeding the “coastal elite” narrative so we don’t blame those ACTUALLY responsible for destroying all that we love and need? Fck this embarrassment of a newspaper.

Thank you to France, Nepal, and people all around who are making clear that we’ve had it. The power is ours. We will put to rest the sweeping violence of crapitalism.

In our declining democracy, teaching LGBTQ+ topics in schools is more important than ever

So I know this is a long shot, but does anyone here know of a way to try different fermented foods without buying entire jars/packages? Dairy-free

Like is there a restaurant that does kimchi flights? Saurecraut samples? Pickle plates?

Recommendations for a (Linux or Windows) app that can detect text in an image file?

My phone has had this feature for quite a while. It would be useful for computer/laptop.

MICHIGAN!

I wish I were able to vote for the senate candidates you have. Incredible.

May these states vote in their interests (for Angie Nixon and Abdul el-Sayed, respectively) because it is rare to have such an opportunity.

Have you voted yet?

JUSTICE FOR
THE
DOLLS

We stand in solidarity with The Dolls of Berlin and queer community centre Casa Kuà.

(⬇️ donation links at the bottom of the post)

The Dolls is a transfem community in Berlin that also does education on (DIY) HRT, these are essential resources for trans people in need of healthcare.

Last Sunday, Casa Kuà, the place where The Dolls held their event, got raided by the police. Everyone present got ID'ed, and detained. Allegedly, HRT and supplies were confiscated. Trans healthcare is not a crime, it's a bogus charge. The Dolls were doing nothing illegal, yet they were met with state violence.

The events of Stonewall and the Institut für Sexualwissenschaft are repeated right before our eyes.

Healthcare is a right, but all too often people do not have access to it. For trans healthcare this is unfortunately commonplace. Some are required to find healthcare outside of systems that are inaccessible and gatekeeping.

This will happen, period. You cannot stop people from seeking and getting life-saving gender-affirming healthcare. But there is a difference in whether this happens with the guidance of a loving and caring community or not.

HRT education, injection safety and trans communtiy are crucial and life saving. The Dolls are here to stay!

The Dolls and Casa Kuà have a fundraiser. And they could really use the money, also for potential legal expenses. So if you can spare an euro or two, or more, that'd be really nice and cool.

We stand with The Dolls. Community is not illegal. Healthcare is not a crime.
International solidarity!

Your periodic reminder that even if you hate your options, for example if your DA is a corrupt scumbag and your local blue team didn't manage to come up with a challenger for your fascist probate registrar, it's important to still vote and choose the blank space. Blank space votes send a message. You're here, you're paying attention, you vote, and you will NOT endorse this trash.
