Dear #ActuallyAutistic siblings.

Firstly, I ask that you repost this if it strikes a chord to any degree (or even if it doesn’t, please help a spectrum brother out).

Secondly, if you have thoughts, resources, or experience with this, please reply.

I’ve been sitting with how icky (literally) I have felt since doing this recruitment exercise.

I was given two questions, where I have to sit in my home, answering as if I’m in front of someone, with no one in front of me, just my computer, recording me, with my camera output on the screen.

Two chances per question to answer, but that almost made it worse – if I fuck up the first shot, what if I fuck up the second?

No direct feedback from another person.

And a deep and abiding sense that if I do fuck up, a word, an expression, a sentence, I am not with a fellow imperfect human being allowing me to regroup. To rephrase. To truly restart.

Just take that second shot and hope it doesn’t happen again.

I have spent 55+ years interpreting the responses of those around me (admittedly not always successfully), but like most (all?) maskers, I do better with someone human, ND or not, in front of me, and certainly not feeling like I’m fucking talking to the mirror.

Am I wrong to feel this is anti-spectrum (I honestly feel it’s anti-human, but that’s a *whole* other level). Am I just over-worrying about a simple “cog in the recruitment wheel we all need to get past”.

Is there any data on this sort of thing at all?

Stray Kitten Report 7: slow progress with the little female, Charlotte, and that's a big contrast with Charlie, who now uses the cat door and visits home by himself. But she starts to play a lot.

She's got that tiny face, mini paws, major eye makeup, and dramatic meows. She can't resist stealing the cat toys she plays with and hoarding them under our garden wood cabin. A little diva, but she also loves wrestling matches with Charlie. I'll show you that under ↓🧵

Let me congratulate infosec for really stepping up, this cyber awareness month has been going gangbusters!

Let's not let up now, there's still a week of awareness to deliver!

Guide to understanding Amsterdam news:

“400 cobras found in shed”: they mean fireworks, it’s fine (it’s not fine)

“Python in console”: no, programmers fleeing PHP, don’t stick your hands in there, it’s a literal snake.

It's not really October until Sasha and Milla join in, now is it? :D

#3314 - Vulnerability

We are planning for the PHP security update later today and will be applying those updates for managed customers and shared hosts as soon as possible. We may disable PHP on servers where updates are unavailable or if active exploitation looks likely before patches arrive.

@beasts What are your plans for today's PHP vulnerability on shared servers? Is it worth me taking any of my own services offline temporarily?

Finally we have created the random number "4" from the famous XKCD strip "do not just make your random number 4"

Yesterday I translated a folk tale about a lake in Switzerland which is said to be the final resting place of Pontius Pilate - either because he comitted suicide by drowning within it, or because the Devil threw him in there. Furthermore, for many centuries people believed that if anyone threw anything into this lake, it would summon a great storm which would devastate the surrounding countryside.

And this is only one of many German-language folk tales about lakes. Which brings me to #ttrpg #worldbuilding . If you run any campaign in a localized area, I feel it adds _immensely_ to the atmosphere if you come up with some folk tales about the local landscape - about lakes, ponds, mountains, rock formations, springs, swamps, and so on and so forth. Such tales might or might not have any basis in "fact" (as far as your fantastic world is concerned). But they make the players more invested in the setting, and if anything strange is going on, you can be sure that the locals will associate these events with such places.

Besides, you can always make them more relevant later in the campaign when it suits you, causing your players to hail you as a genius for plotting your campaign this far in advance!
