I don't make the rules #emfCamp

(Sorry, I'm going to be posting photos from an amazing weekend as I find them)

"This stands out.. 'I believe that in about fifty years’ time it will be possible to programme computers, with a storage capacity of about 10^9, to make them play the imitation game so well that an average interrogator will not have more than 70 per cent. chance of making the right identification after five minutes of questioning. The original question, ‘Can machines think?’ I believe to be too meaningless to deserve discussion. Nevertheless I believe that at the end of the century the use of words and general educated opinion will have altered so much that one will be able to speak of machines thinking without expecting to be contradicted. I believe further that no useful purpose is served by concealing these beliefs.'" - Alan Turing, 1950.

He was about 20 years out. And 1GB isn't nearly enough.. But hell, pretty good for 1950.

The whole paper is absolutely fascinating in a modern context.. https://academic.oup.com/mind/article/LIX/236/433/986238?login=false

Framing the php2shell story as "AI uncovered php2shell" is like hearing an awesome song and crediting the guitar instead of the player. It's just incorrect and steals credit from a good researcher.

The underlying bug was discovered in 2020, a related one in 2024, and they were both rediscovered again through exploitation in 2026 by a human researcher. The researcher used LLM tech to help with parts of the process, not all of it, and says so in the writeup.

Internet Archive ops staff were heroes last night.

PHP vulnerability announced, soon saw attacks, isolated the vulnerability, used Claude to make fixes for our older php versions, used local models to run simulated attacks, deployed.

reinforced WAF and other guards.

Offline briefly, Back on new versions and running!

Given the severity, there are heroes in many many orgs from last night.

Could have been no lights, no traffic signals, real problems.

Heroes.

Thank you all.

This is absolute gold to use next time you're picking a private key.

I was accused of being sensationalist or exaggerating when our 2022 research paper predicted one in 15 visible points in the sky would be a moving satellite. I think maybe we were actually too conservative.

I hate this so very very much.

Facebook is almost bearable today.. all the posts that would normally have been overrun with reform bots are just people debating the actual post. Unheard of!

There are two options.

1. Anthropic have successfully created an intelligent, sapient and conscious digital being, who is their property and whose uncompensated labour they knowingly rent out to their clients. This means that Anthropic executives are reprehensible slavers, and they belong in prison.

2. Anthropic are lying through their teeth and are whipping up "language models are sentient" sentiment in order to delude rubes^H^H^H^H^Hcustomers into being unable to properly assess their technology. This means that Anthropic executives are reprehensible frauds, and they belong in prison.

This is quite cool..
