Just applied for a #Codeberg membership.
I was already using the platform in an exploratory basis and had looked into supporting it.
The recent #genAI / #LLM related changes, and their delightfully articulated reasoning pushed me over the edge.
I'm very happy to be able to support @Codeberg!

I can't think of a single #Android developer whose work is more influential in the Android Dev community (maybe some as influential as, like Chet Haase, Romain Guy, @hackbod, but all on the same level).
Anyway, this is his take on #genAI #LLM.
Spoiler alert: it is based AF.
Reading this study on "Biased AI writing assistants shift users’ attitudes on societal issues":
https://www.science.org/doi/10.1126/sciadv.adw5578
> cowriting with a biased AI writing assistant may powerfully shift people’s attitudes on various issues.
> warning participants about assistants’ bias before or after exposure does not mitigate the attitude-shift effect.
I'm happy to have heard @baldur 's advice:

It seems that too many people didn't watch or understand The Karate Kid (1984).
I'm proudly on team Mr. Miyagi. Doing the work, practicing my chops, even when skipping it and going straight to the good parts might seem appealing, because I know it brings me satisfaction and makes me a better practitioner in the end.
This is a post about using genAI. In my case, for coding.
Spotify Messages are not E2EE!

Anything you send/receive there is visible in clear text to Spotify, and likely to law enforcement agencies.
It's going pretty well!
I use #TrueNASCore and its Cloud Sync feature, which is based on #Rclone. And I decided to setup the sync to Hetzner using SFTP.
My first upload attempt had many failed files, because I didn't RTFM and tried using 16 simultaneous connections when Hetzner says their limit is 10, and 8 is advised for SFTP:
https://docs.hetzner.com/storage/storage-box/access/access-sftp-scp
The second attempt successfully uploaded 342 GiB at ~7.25 MiB/s.
Then I tested downloading 17.624 GiB of that, at ~44.2 MiB/s.
I've been migrating from Big/US Tech due to #privacy reasons for a while. I use #Proton since 2021, #Mastodon since 2022, etc.
One of the things I was reluctant to change was my off-site #backup solution: #Backblaze B2.
Reason? Price. It costs me ~$2.50/month to store ~500GB.
I already knew what to switch to: #Hetzner Box.
But it costs €3.87/month flat for 1TB. So I was waiting for my "stuff" (mostly photos) to grow enough to be worth it.
Today I decided to put my money where my mouth is!
If you use #RSS to escape the clutches of algorithms and are looking for a RSS Reader for #Android, or you're just curious about how fast one can be, I suggest trying #CapyReader:
https://github.com/jocmp/capyreader
It is extremely snappy, works very well and is under active development.
Oh, and the author is over here too:

Launching #Feedly on my #Android daily-driver:
~3s for the loading screen to show
~2s for the content to load
Launching #CapyReader:
~1s for the app and content to load
Good-bye "free" and bloated cloud solution; hello Free, uncluttered and snappy #SelfHosted alternative!
PS: Capy is loading the same feeds from my self-hosted #Miniflux installation.
PS2: Both on Wi-Fi (local network for Capy) and Mobile (over internet for both).
Often enough I only find out it happened because the phone gets warm enough for me to feel it, and some valuable juice has been consumed.
Ideally I'd like to keep "Quickly launch camera" on, but disable this "Even quicker relaunch camera" behavior.
Note: also happens if you launch the camera from the lock screen.
Does anyone know how to disable #Android's "pocket warming" feature?
I run #LineageOS 21 (Android 14) and find the "Quickly open camera" feature useful.
I can pick my phone, double press the power button and be ready to snap some pics.
Then another press locks the phone and back in the pocket it goes.
The problem is that yet another power button press launches the camera again, which happens often when I'm re-pocketing it!
Me in 2021:
Crap! My personal domain registration is expiring again.
*scratches head*
Well, I've been a happy #GoDaddy customer since 2008, it is safe to renew with them.
*checks options*
Alrighty, 10 years it is. The more I buy, the more I save!
Godaddy earlier this year:
No more API access to you, peasant. Here's an email that will go to your spam box.

Me today:
I can't access my service. Why?!
*some time later...*
Why is the #DNS entry out-of-date?! Oh you #$@%!!!
Security by cursed #Typography? What does this protect against? Does it improve legibility?
Got a letter with a code to vote for budget allocation for projects in my municipality.
Was slightly confused by that '3' there. Is it a lowercase 'z'? I guess not, there is an actual lowercase 'z' next to it.
What about those '2's? Did they not eat their vegetables or just forgot to grow up?
PS: I already voted, don't bother trying to use my code.
#Amsterdam, where even the flowers have bikes.
Can I be mad at the abandoned bike on the sidewalk and happy that it was there so the flowers would grow like this?
I run huo-ju's excellent port of @photoprism on FreeBSD to manage my family's complete library of pictures (~25K):
https://github.com/huo-ju/photoprism-freebsd-port
But performance on some DB operations was lacking: simply adding photos to albums took ~5-10s to complete. So I decided to take a look at what I could do.
Turns out all I needed was to migrate the DB from SQLite to MariaDB.
And I documented my process on a blog post:

Report: I'm in this post and I don't like it.

Do you use the official #Mastodon #Android client?
Do you prefer to attentively read all your Home TL toots in natural/chronological order (upwards)?
Would you like that the "Load missing posts" button kept the scroll position instead of taking you to the top of the loaded posts and making you have to remember where you were and scroll back to it?
Well, you might want to give a 👍/💓/👀 on this PR:

Hey @trumpet, thanks for the great work!
I was trying to follow someone from librem.one and finally found out that our instance has suspended theirs (I tried 2 clients before seeing the actual error on web).
Our instance's about doesn't give a reason for the suspension. Could share what was it? (or what's the correct way of finding out about suspensions?)
