Man, PHP has been getting its shit kicked in today. Well, at least the other language I grew up on is doing fine, right Java?
...Java?

Q: How to make a completely slop-free Linux system now that so much stuff is contaminated by slop?
A: Find an old binary Linux distribution CD to install as the bootstrap. After installing that, get the newest possible Linux From Scratch that you can build using that distro and start building that, then keep building newer LFS setups until you hit the last known clean versions of software. Fork all the code from those clean versions. Package it up. Congrats you just cleaned up a superfund site and got a working operating system as a result.

So while AI giveth (Linus codegooning poorly), AI also taketh...
why do I get the feeling that FUTO's goal is actually to *weaponize* the entire concept of supporting FOSS projects
like, most people are just going to see a thing that gives FOSS projects the money that is needed to keep said projects going and leave it at that
but then people look deeper and find that it's run by some filthy entities and instead of going after the entities, they go after the people who got the money
who are mostly like everyone else and didn't know
and now you have infighting tearing the project apart in more ways than one
which feels more like what FUTO is trying to accomplish
I sincerely hope that when I come back in a few hours everything isn't still *on fire*
I have made a permanent, accessible archive for storing my writings! You can go to https://ey.holenet.info/ and see all my modern installments of Education Yourself in simple-ass HTML. Except for the logo. The logo stays.
what is a good recommendation for something to run a simple blog with that isn't just me smashing together disparate HTML files? I've never used a static site generator before and my previous experiences were with WordPress, CuteNews, and a homemade crime against PHP programming that I no longer readily have on hand (and will probably not work on any current version of PHP)
EDIT: Clarifications: I have a server already so I don't need hosting. Also would be nice if the option didn't cost money or makes use of LLMs.
also tagging @zzt because this isn't part of that thread
Holy hell it's been a long time since Education Yourself! This installment is "Lucky Linus and the Development Hell" where some kid's hobby project ends up powering The Thing The Entire Digital World Has Been Built Upon For Literal Decades

So apparently it is possible to yank a crate from the rust ecosystem and make everything collapse like a Jenga tower: https://github.com/zip-rs/zip2/issues/1075
...uh. There's... no python3 for NetBSD?
Well, time for go to bed, but first, I should get Waterfox building on NetBSD (no I am not switching browsers again, this is non-negotiable)
Which means cloning the repo, hoooo boy browsers are fat
Serious and important question to all #Linux users, in particular #Fedora users (in particular #Fedora44 if this makes any difference)
It looks like I will be needing to swap back to using an Nvidia graphics card (RTX 2060). Is it still a miserable experience with drivers? And if so, how do I make it not so miserable that I get PTSD?
:blobfoxthinking: well... looks like if I want to improve video hardware support on NetBSD, I have to set the entire thing on fire, reinstall completely fresh WITHOUT installing X, then manually install the "modular" X.Org packages so I can get the "xf86-video-intel" package to install and work, and thus allegedly leverage the existing DRM stuff

:blobfoxgooglyholdingitsheadinitshands: what the absolute fuck is this timeline
Man, with all this nonsense going on with browsers, I should look at migrating to SeaMonkey.
[manually imports Waterfox profile into SeaMonkey]
[gets all his cookies and bookmarks]
so far so good
[tries to access fedi]
[white page]
oh, nevermind, back to waterfox ._.

If BSky post isn't public, here's the message from Joe Siegler:
"Richard B. Gray - LEVELORD
11/15/1957 - 10/12/2026
Just heard the news that an old friend of mine has passed on. Richard Gray - aka Levelord has departed the planet.
I know he's dealt with cancer on and off for awhile now, a word that I cannot stand. Word comes from his wife Olga."
