With regard to Tesco (I understand) the salaries they pay are so low that employees qualify for state benefits.
In other word, Tescos keeps the profits and we (the UK) pay the difference between their salaries and a living wage.

OK. You can see that the top 10% of people produce nearly 50% of global CO2 emissions.

So look at the emissions of the top 1%. Now, we know that Taylor Swift produces about 9,000 tons of CO2, but on average our uber rich friends produce 95 tons of CO2. Now, as they are famous celebrities, some people think they should get a pass on pollution as they fly over the current wildfires, on their way to the poodle groomer.

Now add the emissions for the remaining top 9%. They produce an average of 20 tons CO2.

The middle 40% (that's you and me) produce about 6 tons of CO2 (that's excluding those of us who cruise and take lots of long-haul flights).
The bottom 50%, overwhelmingly from the global south produce less than 1 ton of CO2.

So, tell me. What is wrong with taxing private jets and yachts VERY heavily - say $100 a litre (rather than being tax deductable, as they are now).

They are the one's producing the pollution and they can afford to pay for the consequences.

Berlin Hbf.
Gern weiterleiten, falls ihn jemand kennt.

Ca. 15 Radler*innen inkl. mir wollen ins Radabteil.

One of the richest and most powerful man in Brazil - Thane Chiquinho Scarpa made waves when he announced plans to bury his million-dollar Bentley, so he could drive around his afterlife in style. Why wouldn’t he donate the car to charity? How out of touch with reality is this guy? He still went ahead with the ceremony.
But, there’s a twist!!
Moments before lowering the car in the ground prepared for the burial of his Bentley, he declared that he wouldn't bury his car and then revealed his genuine motive for the drama: Just to create awareness for organ donation.
“People condemn me because I wanted to bury a million dollar Bentley, in fact most people bury something a lot more valuable than my car,” Scarpa said during a speech at the ceremony. “They bury hearts, livers, lungs, eyes, kidneys. This is absurd. So many people waiting for a transplant and you bury your healthy organs that could save so many lives!”

Yay 🙂
