Saw Harry Manx last night at Heartwood Music Hall in Owen Sound, Ontario ... just, wow!
If you ever get the chance don't miss it - he always brings his 20! string guitar/sitar and it's absolutely magic.
First lecture in a course that I have taken over and teach for the first time. A very large class, second-year students who are eager to learn and who are also anxious, as the course was taught very rigidly before.
I have discarded slides altogether and develop the material on the whiteboard, as I used to do. So liberating. 10-20 minutes for setting the scene, then I give them a mini case to work through with their neighbours. The students are wonderful. The room buzzes in eager discussions between them; they compare notes, check each others calculations, argue earnestly with each other. Live discovery of fundamental truths, in a shared space. The subject is alive and speaks to us. After the session I release my notes, which put all the micro insights together.
Real teaching, I and Thou, is possible. I am lucky to be a teacher and to have these students. Life is good.

@whitequark Maybe a dumb question, but can Glasgow be configured as an SPI or I2C peripheral that can programmatically inject faults in the bitstream or clock signals?
Oooohhh ... This fellow has an interesting channel, and this video about CAN is pretty good ...
I've been using Python as a replacement for shell scripting for embedded development tooling for about a decade, but the dependency hell is starting to get to me.
I use PySerial, JSON, YAML, Matplotlib and a few other libraries regularly.
Are there any good reasons to avoid Golang for this kind of work?
@whitequark Quick question, do you have a link to your tool chain/workflow for embedded development?
Bare metal I assume.
Reason is I'm almost ready to release a pure make based framework and I'm not sure it's as useful or "easy" as I think it is :-)
It's for hardcore developers (like you) and I'm curious what your workflow looks like. Link later is fine, you need to keep focus on Glasgow !
@grimalkina I'm all set for the weekend now :-)
Unfortunately I'll have to read indoors as the smoke is a little much here in Owen Sound, Ontario ...

So I've got a pretty decent recipe now for creating a containerized embedded build environment for ARM Cortex devices using slop-free tooling like PodMan and Codium.
It's a bit more work than using VSCode and the built in devcontainer support, but I think it's still useable for a typical embedded developer.
It works on Windows and Linux and (I'm assuming) MacOS as well.
Is this something the community would be interested in reading about?
We have a baby kitten snake in the house ... this week will be interesting.
EDIT: Added alt text to the picture
We are arguably better equipped with software tools, processes, debuggers, and analyzers than ever before—so why are we still struggling?
I will be giving a talk on how we made a potentially stressful project into a low-friction experience.
The Embedded Online Conference (May 11-15 2026) has on-demand viewing of talks and workshops by 71+ experts for the rest of the year.

Well, I've submitted the video for my talk at the Embedded Online Conference this year in May.
It asks - Why Are We Struggling In The Golden Age of Embedded Systems Programming.
I'll describe some of the things my team did to enable really low friction cross functional teamwork in a high pressure situation.
Looking forward to seeing some really great speakers - and I can do it from the comfort of my desk ...
