Hey, @EUCommission, fuck you too.

On Wednesday, EU Member States approved a change to the GDPR that would put the profit-making interests of OpenAI, Anthropic, Google, Meta and SpaceX over European's fundamental right to data protection. According to the approved text, processing personal data “in the context of AI” should automatically be lawful. In particular, Big Tech would be able to use all personal data collected over the past decades with virtually no restrictions, as long as this happens “in the context” of AI. Schrems: “Under the agreed text, the profits of AI companies would typically trump European’s fundamental right to privacy. This is nothing but a digital expropriation of Europeans.”

What do you think of the Idea of building a standard library for accessibility patterns for the web?

Anthropic boasts they're working with a company called Frontier (🙄) to remove carbon from the atmosphere to make their datacenters "ethical" … when every informed person knows this doesn't work, is just a drop in the ocean, and is green-washing.

https://web.archive.org/web/20261016234533/https://www.anthropic.com/policy/infrastructure

Meanwhile Google illegally destroys forests that actually remove carbon … to build more datacenters.

This is what you encourage when you use LLMs. Even local LLMs.

My evening coffee (don't worry, it's a decaf Brasil Santos) today is served in my battered #PHP mug.

I'm a (now mostly inactive) member of this very welcoming community for *decades* and I know how hard the security and core team must have worked to release the recent fix.

Thank you in the name of literally millions of users and engineers for your work over all these years 💕

CERT-EU are on two social media platforms (unless you count github as one, then three) -- and mastodon is one of them!

That's nice to learn, on a less than stellar day on the web.

So today some of the worst people on earth using the most environmentally destructive tools on earth brought down a huge part of the internet by exploiting a potential problem found many years ago in PHP which was previously not practical for anyone to exploit.

It only became "practical" to exploit this problem because "AI" came along to automate the boring and repetitive work required to do so. Absurd amounts of computing power were applied specifically to break into other peoples' websites.

Now the same people who are behind this are trying to pretend that they're heroes for finding an exploit.

"AI uncovers critical vulnerabilities", their headline reads. But the vulnerability was only made to be critical by the very same people as hide behind that headline.

Many thousands of websites are offline, many people are losing money, many thousands of people are working hard to try to patch or work around the problem, many small guys are finding it almost impossible to patch, and we're all supposed to be thankful to OpenAI and others involved ? Nah. Fuck off.

Everything about "AI" involves a lot of externalized costs, but I've still yet to see even a single positive thing that has been achieved by "AI". That has definitely not changed today.

Of course it was censorship. How is that even a question?

If you really want to protest what's happening in our country, start by deleting all your Meta accounts. It's the easiest protest ever. You don't even have to get off your couch to do it.

Don't "deactivate". Permanently DELETE your Facebook, Instagram, Threads, WhatsApp, etc.

Vou postar isso aqui novamente porque sim. Não lembro quem postou a primeira vez.

The SEO Framework plugin just got even better support for the Fediverse.

Gentle reminder to anyone still on Facebook that Facebook's unchecked power to censor and harm comes directly from the fact that people are still on Facebook.

1. go to about:config
2. look for "nova"
3. set "browser.nova.enabled" to "false"
