So, regarding the #php security issues, it seems that Chainguard was the one who broke the embargo. But at the same time, AWS reports that they were seeing exploit attempts days before even that happened. So it seems that there are other issues with the coordination process.

My employer offers charitable contribution matching. It contracts with a third-party to handle these payments, and this third-party has decided that it won't handle contributions to the Southern Poverty Law Center due to the Trump administration's bullshit "investigation" into them.

The good news is that my employer was basically like "Fuck these clowns; send us your receipts and we'll match your donations directly." I appreciate that.

I've seen anecdotal evidence suggesting a bit of a migration back to #twitter. Organizations (Mozilla, prominently) and individuals whom I respect that previously left for the #fediverse and/or #bluesky are have announced a return to the platform in recent days/weeks. I cannot explain it, but they seem to suggest that the people they want to reach or with whom they want to engage are there.
I am disappointed. But what else is new. 🙁

After 15 years with us, Chewbacca (usually shortened to “bacca”, not “chewie”) died yesterday. We’ve known since last fall that he didn’t have much time left. I’m glad he made it to summer, though, so he could go outside and find a peaceful shady place to lie down for the last time. He may have been the best cat I’ve ever owned. When my kids were little, they would manhandle him and he never got mad or scratched them. He was incredibly friendly, but also a big clumsy goofball. #catsofmastodon

Logged in to LinkedIn this morning because there were rumors of layoffs at a former employer. Didn't see any impact on anybody I knew, but I was presented with a hiring ad for US Customs & Border Patrol. Normal targeting would never have shown me that ad, so it's clearly prioritized specially. I reported the ad to LinkedIn as representing a "Dangerous or extremist organization", because that option seemed to most accurately reflect this ad.

One nice thing about using a unique email address for online accounts is that it’s clear which data breach is behind a sudden uptick in weird activity (password reset email from random sites and other such backscatter). This time it appears to have been #discord. #infosec #privacy

An illustration as to how little mainstream penetration the #fediverse has actually made: Currently the #NFL playoffs are happening in the US. There's a single game happening right now. The #reddit game thread got ~34k comments in the first half before the moderators locked it and created a dedicated thread for the second half to work around reddit scaling issues. The #lemmy nfl community thread is idle.
At least in the US, the fediverse really doesn't register in any meaningful way yet.
