I decided that splitting "local/friends" vs "general social" instances is too much overhead, so I'll be moving to my @nirak@carhenge.club account
I'll be manually following people again from that account, I hope it's not too annoying to follow back again
A ✅ has appeared in my profile. Hurrah for that. I think we have to realise that the learning curve here is steepish, but rather than be anxious about it, shouldn’t we should celebrate the adventure of slowly finding out something that was puzzling at first? Like your first week at school or in a new office building. We’ll get there and soon laugh at how confused me were at first. I hope!
Any recommendations on email services for mastodon instances? Mailgun has come recommend, and I think the $1 per 1000 emails seems ok for a little bit, but the next step up is $35 a month.
Oh and I hate the service's name but that's not a deal breaker
I should have tagged this DH staffing question #DigitalHumanities but ran out of room
I keep reading software development type books but so little of what is in there applies to what I do. I'm trying to figure out timelines for up to a dozen grants at a time for a fairly small staff, keeping the non technical work running in parallel while producing usable data but protecting the time of the programmers, and managing expectations (over and over and over).
People who work in DH centers: I am looking at staffing lists on center web pages and wondering which people take on the amorphous tasks of "directing work where it needs to go" and "talking to people in between code blocks" and things like that.
A lot of this kind of work has been me in the past, and we now have one dedicated "project specialist" role, but it still doesn't feel like enough much of the time.
I'm not actually seeing a ton of people marked as "project manager" on staff pages
