@lynnesbian 🔲 I’m Australian and I have no name for these that is shorter than a complete sentence.

We had coffee with our neighbor who refused to spring forward six months ago, and this weekend the country rejoins him in "Les Standard Time."

she's red for an amazing reason

@jalefkowit here on mastodon we are proud to make our explicit and actionable threats against US officials accessible to disabled users

Damn it all, the worst part about jokes like this is that nobody I live with would get it.

Much less laugh out loud like I did.

Thank you for the laugh.

it took a while, but the bash script i wrote to find the most popular article category on wikipedia by curling every single article has finally finished. no i don't know what a "database dump" is. i can now reveal that the most popular category by far is 429 Too Many Requests

so jetbrains IDEs have a ⚙️ button that takes you to the settings. when there's an IDE update available, it gets a 🟡 on it, and the tooltip text becomes "Updates available. IDE and Project Settings"

for years i assumed it meant "there are updates available for your IDE and project settings", and wondered what they meant by that. updates for my settings? maybe it means this update will change settings, or add new ones?

i JUST realised what it (probably) actually means: "[there are] Updates available. [also, click to view your] IDE and Project Settings."

personally i think the tooltip should say something like "IDE and Project Settings | Updates available", or maybe even use a newline and smaller text like in the attached image that i've manipulated with a GNU program

wikipedia is about sourcing information from reliable sources, right? and polls are reliable sources, right? (please don't edit wikipedia based on the results of this poll)

so this article claims that some australians call potato slinkies "chips on a stick". fellow australians: is this true?

#poll #polls #australia

i was gonna boost this toot because there's another critical security update

however, the joke of "there are so many dang critical security updates" does not land if the last post i made complaining about their frequency was on the 16th of February, 2024

the blog post included five images:

• a desktop PC with the tower circled
• an external monitor as a standalone image (it was a bulky beige CRT)
• a weird dutch angle shot of a keyboard
• a laptop
• a stock photo of a stick of RAM with that thick dark blue "alamy stock photo" bar on the bottom of it

had a dream that where i was explaining a complex idea like memory caching or something (don't remember exactly what) and the blog post i wrote started with "a desktop computer, which is a laptop with an external screen, tower, and keyboard" but didn't elaborate on what the difference between the stack and heap was

ℹ️ Use the left mouse to move and the right mouse to look.

ℹ️ Hold the L key to aim down sights and press the R key to fire.

ℹ️ Use the menu key to pause.

apparently there are over 52,000 URL preview cards on my instance that are more than seven years old... no wonder this instance takes up so much storage space

@lynnesbian but how about taking Œ?

@lynnesbian I momentarily misread that as "whichever porn is responsible for 'orientated'".

it has been twelve thousand, three hundred and eighteen days since UTF-8 was announced to the public and google STILL hasn't figured out how to decode obscure foreign graphemes such as the apostrophe

3 Across: You know who else gives birth to child? (2, 3)

what words look wrong in your english dialect?

in the US, you would write that a word is "spelled" a certain way. in AU/GB/etc., you'd write that it's "spelt". i kinda prefer the american spelling... "dreamt" and even "learnt" look fine to me, but "spelt" not so much.

i love encyclopaedia. i love mediaeval. i LOVE me some good old fashioned diarrhoea. but i can't stand oestrogen. there's no way i'm taking O.

[intentionally absent paragraph discussing connexion]

also, whichever pom is responsible for "orientated"... let it be known that you are deeply mistaken.
