The world is rapidly going to hell and I can’t say I’ve personally enjoyed parenting for the past two years, but every time I see a pregnant lady or a couple with a small kid I mentally send good vibes their way. Hope things work out for them.
Saw someone sharing their A-ha Take On Me style shader, and as it's something I've been working on for ages (making things look like paper for our game, Leonardo's Moon Ship), here's a WIP of mine.

ah, yep, the pivot to the next Big Tech Thing™ is starting now, with it being quantum computing just like many people predicted: https://blog.google/innovation-and-ai/models-and-research/quantum-computing/magic-state-cultivation-quantum-computing/
AI is fucking done for lmao

The insanity of this is that Trump is funding a country who is supplying armaments to Iran, who the US is at war with.
This is such a perfect illustration of the obscene veil of geopolitical nonsense when it's pulled back.
There are men who want to cling onto power. They will do anything, fund anyone, kill any number of civilians, ruin any number of healthy economies.... just to hang onto their own personal power a few minutes longer.
The Telegraph obtained information that it was Elon Musk’s idea to reduce the maximum speed of Starlink-controlled (interceptor-) drones in Ukraine, then got cold feet that this might backfire on Starlink in the European market and then finally blamed Trump for this episode.
The anthropomorphization of #AI goes one step further.

To those who complain about Deutsche Bahn*,
wait till you try the Deutsche Autobahn..
We decided to try a new transport mode to cross Germany this week, having left ticket booking too late to be reasonably priced and given recent disruptions on the line.
Our rental EV, a VW ID.4 was perfect, long range, lots of space, good acceleration and a very large network of super fast chargers everywhere.
But I wonder if there is more than a 50km stretch of autobahn between Denmark and the Belgian border that is not currently undergoing some kind of work?
Back to letting the train take the strain next time.
*I admit I am occasionally one of those too.

Optionality Collapse: We’re Investing in a Future That Won’t Exist

You need to update your priors. Copying things off of the internet has come a long way in the last few months. Copying things off of the internet is the future. If you aren't on board with copying things off of the internet, you're going to be left behind. There's a non-zero chance that copying things off of the internet will wipe out humanity. But copying things off the internet will also cure cancer and eliminate work. Which is why we have to keep copying things off of the internet.
College roommate lives overseas. Me and some buddies keep track of his mom since she lives alone
Yesterday one of the guys was concerned because he was supposed to link up with her via phone but wasn't able to. So I did a wellness check by sending a Large Meat Lovers pizza to her in rural Missouri via Uber Eats with lots of delivery instructions
Everything worked out. She's fine - just had her phone on silent
Can't decide if this is a clever hacker story or a dystopian technology one
The kompromat must be bad

The sanctions were part of legislation that was named after Senator #LindseyGraham, the South Carolina Republican who died in July.

Hear hear. Point is to keep it out of the pool of good stuff though.
"it's here to stay! you can't get rid of it! stop dreaming of a better world!"
buddy, if i only read books, played games, and listened to music published before this decade, i would never run out of interesting and compelling works of art to feed my mind with. I don't *have* to buy anything you people make.

Will mix well with zero click malware attacks. Also, godsend for any government agency.
Something I've noticed while on book tour for the past couple of weeks is that Mastodon is a really good way to let people know about bookstore events. So many people I've met on the road have told me that they found out about my book tour from me or other folks on the fedi. I think it's partly because so many book-loving people are on Mastodon. But also if you compare Mastodon to places like Bluesky or Insta, the community here has a higher percentage of actual humans vs. bots or operatives.
…But this is the way the web has been heading for years, and now JavaScript-powered “Prove you are a human” gateways are cementing JavaScript dependency into everything, thus normalising “This is just how things have to be”.
JavaScript front ends are ‘protecting’ publishers from JavaScript-laden thieves and fucker-uppers.
It’s just a relentless justification for absolute bullshit accelerating overshoot towards the point where trillions of lines of shitty verbose code no longer work
I know it's rude to brag, but today I completed a dull practical boring task that would normally take about two and a half hours in just under six hours.
