Good thing they're doing this without letting the gas stations know..... again. 🙄

There is no such thing as "ethically using AI". AI is trained on stolen data. AI is destroying the environment and communities. AI is making us stupid. Use AI if you want, just don't pretend you're doing it in ethical way.
@andycarolan Same vibes as Sam Altman suggesting that parents create a personalized GenAI podcast for the drive to school... (instead of actually talking to their children). These people are not well and they are responsible for widely deployed technologies. Critical thinking and digital media literacy are more important than ever.
Hey, @EUCommission, fuck you too.

On Wednesday, EU Member States approved a change to the GDPR that would put the profit-making interests of OpenAI, Anthropic, Google, Meta and SpaceX over European's fundamental right to data protection. According to the approved text, processing personal data “in the context of AI” should automatically be lawful. In particular, Big Tech would be able to use all personal data collected over the past decades with virtually no restrictions, as long as this happens “in the context” of AI. Schrems: “Under the agreed text, the profits of AI companies would typically trump European’s fundamental right to privacy. This is nothing but a digital expropriation of Europeans.”

Well, the PHP updates were super fun (no big deal, really, just a fun surprise), so let's get hometown updated too!

Wild... I'm sorry about anyone hurt, which i understand is the case.. The timing of this is wild, though, as all the rally participants were coming from Merritt up this route to get to the stages.
Saw a guy call it cuck coding instead of vibe coding because you just sit in a chair and watch

This guy is the king of making friends.
... I guess we haven't booted him out yet?
"You always have a choice in Firefox, including whether to use features enhanced with AI". LIARS! FUCKING LIARS!! THE "BLOCK AI" SWITCH UNDERNEATH THIS WAS TURNED *OFF*! YOU SILENTLY UPGRADED MY WEB BROWSER WHILE MICROSOFT WAS REBOOTING MY COMPUTER IN THE NIGHT, YOU ADDED A BUNCH OF SECRET AI BULLSHIT YOU DID NOT DISCLOSE TO ME, YOU HAD IT TURNED ON BY DEFAULT, and then you have the fucking GALL to say I had a fucking "choice"
Get outa here with your fucking cutesy fox mascot for the apocalypse
I’m already ignoring AI as hard as I can but I’m not getting left behind fast enough
@jpmens I will die on this hill. I have a monitor the size of Nebraska, I have space for borders and visible usable scroll bars, and I absolutely do not care about the stupid aesthetics of rounded corners if it means I can't resize windows using the well-thought-out obvious visual controls that were standardized over 3 decades ago.
I wish UI designers demonstrated they know anything about human factors and usability, at the bare minimum can display the level of understanding common in the 70s and 80s. What I see are careless thoughtless graphic designers raised on CSS and mobile app design and Having Opinions.
This corrosion of competence has been going on for decades, at least by the time "skeuomorphism" entered the lexicon. This isn't a reflexive "old ways are best" mentality, it's knowing that techniques like THERP exist https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Technique_for_human_error-rate_prediction and that HRA as an engineering discipline has a long history that should be at least understood before being discarded.
Modern systems have so much more basic capability (speed, resolution, space) yet are somehow far less usable than those of 2-3 decades ago.
Throwing billions in public money behind a pipeline at a time of climate breakdown – while sweeping aside environmental protections, meaningful Indigenous consultation and workers’ right to strike – is absolutely not in the national interest.
This is just another gift to an oil industry already on track to make $100 billion in wartime profits this year alone. We pay, we take on the risk, and they reap the rewards.
Unpopular/unwelcome opinion:
All of the data stolen from the US government by this man & his DOGE team will be one of the major reasons that Republicans will keep the House & Senate.

The US economy should have been ground to a halt by a general strike, and these muthafuckas dragged out of Washington by their hair while it still had an excellent chance of success.
The remaining options are not good.

I just killed off my #Bluesky account today. I started out on it about a month ago to see what things were like over there. At first, it briefly felt nostalgic to me; I was having memories of 2007-2010 twitter when it wasn't blatantly corporate.
But, that feeling faded kinda quickly when I encountered Bluesky's algorithm. I was seeing the effect it had on users; there was an urgency for attention, jockeying for the quickest take on the trending topic, and the underlying quest for endless dopamine. People weren't communicating as much as they were performing for reactions.
I tried to find my groove, or my people... but I felt like I was in alien territory. When I caught myself looking up how to build a following on that platform, that was the moment I pumped the brakes.
Who I am shouldn't require a strategy on how to win over internet strangers. I am the person I am because I am confident and comfortable with who I've become.
I closed the app, went back to the #fediverse.
I haven't logged back in to Bluesky in a few weeks.
Today, I decided to permanently logout.
"We're in an AI race with China" okay why aren't we in a solar race or high-speed rail race or healthcare race or quality of life race or some shit.
It's like everyone who came on board to AI because "they can write code now!" thinks the primary argument the rest of us have is "no it can't"
So I'll be the one to say it: yes AI can write code. I believe you. They can write code. It compiles. It even passes the tests that the AI also wrote.
Unfortunately the code they write is shit. It's automated technical debt with built in landmines. You think people coding in C causes issues? Wait'll you see what LLM code produced on massive scale does

Throw it in a lake.
Anyone else getting re-attestation messages from MS SNDS because Microsoft broke their crap?
"Re-attestation Required
Deadline: Sat, 27 Oct 0001 17:00:00 GMT
Failure to re-attest by this date will result in automatic access suspension."
Guess they're firing out notices 75 years in advance now!
All that money going in to slop...
