I saw a whole school of them once!
It was like being physically inside Mastodon. :D
so metropolitan museum of art has a register of books they’ve published that are out of print and that you can download for free! they’re mostly books on art, archeology, architecture, fashion and history and i just think that’s super useful and interesting so i wanted to share! you can find all of the books available here!

The God of Bad Art gets offerings from all over the world, but in Their temple, They sometimes appear.
"Why bad art?" I ask.
"It is brave", the God replies.
"To try and fail?"
"No," the God chuckles. "Any creative work is a defiance of entropy, of Death itself. If you create, you do not fail."
Ich will nicht ...

Ich mag digitale Lösungen und nutze sie gerne. Aber sie müssen für alle da sein: Ohne unnötige Hürden. Ohne Tracking. Unabhängig von Gerät und Betriebssystem.
Einfach mal wieder Mensch sein dürfen. Ohne ständig das Produkt zu sein.

[threateningly] your phone has great new features!
Via A Book of Creatures, things I didn't know: "imp" as a term actually derives from horticulture and was originally a word for tree shoots -> children -> children of satan/devils specifically -> modern usage.
Etymology is fun :)
Anyway here's something I saw this week in my short trip to Oslo - a new bird for me, in the form of a nutcracker!
These hoppy little corvids (crow/magpie relatives) live in cold and high mountain climates and bury nut stashes, digging them up from under the snow with their long heavy beaks during the winter months. They're also very speckledy, and have a very different balance to most of their cousins with a much longer beak and a short tail.
Bunny Business (Marigold)
Last night I had a dream visit from Marigold. I gave her pets and told her how much I love her and miss her. 😭 My baby. I hope she'll visit again. ❤️ 🐰
Matilda has defeated the giant spider. #Bunny #HouseRabbit #BunniesOfMastodon
It must have been all the kind words 🫂❤️, we had a lovely evening tonight. Skye was feeling really great, hopping and bright and hungry. 🩵
Cutting her lettuce, bok Choi and dandelions into narrow ribbons (like noodles!) allows her to eat without difficulty when meds are running low at the end of the night! She’s always been able to eat grass and I figured I’d experiment and sure enough it helps! Hope this helps someone else out who might have a bun down the road with some dental pain. ❤️
My novel Non-Player Character is part of the Asexuals on Adventures bundle!
If you like your SFF adventures with asexual protagonists by asexual authors, then this is definitely worth checking out.

Daft thing that I think Fedi will like: an internet controlled bubble machine in a Florida backyard. It's got a webcam.
Apparently been going since 2001.
doh! I'm not even (by far not even...) the most prolific rabbit-pic poster in the house rabbit circle I circulate in here...
For those not in the know, #RabbitsOfMastodon and #HouseRabbit are generally good for what ails an aching soul.
(Here's an old picture of Lena as a bonus. She knew she wasn't supposed to be up on the back of the sofa.)
🐰 Bunny Business (A Mystery)
Went into the living room today and Mirabelle was just sitting there, casually chewing on a piece of paper tissue as if that were the most normal everyday occurence. (Of course I took it from her.)
I have no idea
- where it came from,
- why she had it,
- why she ate it,
- how much of it she ate.
There's a tissue box on the couch table, but Mirabelle can't reach it and there was no evidence of the box or the tissues there being tampered with. How did she get a tissue? Is it one of the inscrutable mysteries of BUN? Will we ever know??
(She's perfectly fine btw, don't worry.)

OK, open discussion as I'm at this workshop on it. When someone raises the idea of "impact" from humanities #academia, how do you expect that works in practice? What would you imagine impact *meaning*? Do you think academia does enough of it? Especially interested in views of non-academics on this & what you actually see of impact.
Boosts welcome/appreciated!
One sees LLM-interested people elsewhere online saying things like "how has AI been changing YOUR life?"
And it's sort of an interesting question though for the opposite reasons they're asking it.
The main way the LLM boom has affected my life is to make a lot of things so much harder. It makes information filtering an even more constant grinding process than it already was: it's noticeably worsened search info quality and makes it harder to find anything reliable and/or human and/or real.
With Microsoft shutting down Publisher and apparently making it fully unusable someday very soon - I was still using it as I had access to it anyway via a family 365 subscription - I need to work out what to make posters with now.
Anyone got any suggestions? Ideally, you know, functional and reasonably simple, I don't like event making posters and I'm bad at it but I have to do it regularly. And free or at least not on a subscription.
Boosts welcome!
