"oh, they're on mastodon.social? Seems sus, I better watch out."

"Catgirls dot whatever? Now THAT'S legit."

The fedi rocks.

Trump o no.

I admit to going to bed last night expecting Trump to somehow win, so waking up to at least some good news, appreciated.

Kind of stupid that this turnaround wasn’t due to his raping, crimes, corruption, constant lies, bullying behaviour…

The orange one made gasoline expensive.

<shakes head slowly>

A win, sure, and there is so much work left to be done.

Just saw it again in another place:

We have to make "ai;dr" a thing in a similar way to "tl;dr".

I know I’m not alone in feeling beaten down over what’s happened to this nation in the past couple of years. This feeling of hope is such a gift. Of course things don’t magically change from here, and we didn’t reach this point without the hard work and sacrifice of so many. To me it’s a reminder that things CAN change when enough people work together. It’s normal to get discouraged but don’t lose hope and don’t give up.

@KimCrayton1 Thank you for this. Hoping that black and latino voters can stay united, it'll likely offset whatever the other side offers.
Special shout out to black women, for leading America, consistently, by your actions, in the right direction

The book is the starting place.

To help you see clearly what is operating underneath your decisions,
your discomfort,
and your certainty,
so you can make choices rooted in our hope rather than our pain.

The coalition that makes a different future possible already exists.

It is Black.

It is overwhelmingly women-led.

The question is whether white folx will do the internal work required to show up as genuine co-conspirators rather than the burden of being well-meaning passengers.

That is not a talking point.
That is a documented pattern that shows up election after election, and it is time that our collective behavior starts to align with that reality.

What the data also shows is that whiteness has a politics.

It is not about party affiliation or intention or how you voted.

It is about what gets protected,
what gets prioritized,
and what gets sacrificed when comfort is prioritized over stated values.

The data does not lie.

Black women turned out at 94% Democratic. Black men at 77%. Every non-white voting bloc leaned Democratic by double digits. White men voted Republican at 61%. White women at 59%.

If you want a progressive agenda in this country, it must be acknowledged and respected, that it runs through Black folx.

Black women specifically.

Let's remember which billionaires lined up behind Trump and how they tried to buy influence. Elon Musk dropped nearly half a billion dollars. Jeff Yass, the Uihleins, Ken Griffin. They all poured hundreds of millions into Republican campaigns, betting their money could carry him through.

They were betting on permanence. On staying in the president's good graces. On power protecting its own.

Well, the winds shifted today. Democrats took the Senate. Won the House. Flipped governorships in Texas, Georgia, Ohio, and Iowa. Voters sent a clear message about what happens when wealth concentrates political access.

Power flows to where voters send it. Not to where billionaires write checks. Remind them of that.

@mcnado Concentration camps, white people being killed, children being snatched from their parents arms and used as bait, soldiers being abandoned at sea, people losing healthcare and jobs, AI, gas prices rising, children being raped and killed, social media being captured by Nazis, an ongoing pandemic, poisoned food, and closures and destruction of public property, ALL AFTER HE WAS ELECTED A SECOND FUCKING TIME!

@mcnado There is so much horror, that will not end with the midterms. It'll take years, I'm afraid. And lives lost - to ICE, to cuts in aid, the scars to society will stay. But there is hope now. The whole world is taking a deep breath. Relieved.

@cora @david_chisnall @cda Thanks, everyone, for the great discussion! I'm glad to hear that the tool is useful. 😊

If anyone is interested in the complexities of link checking, I gave a talk on the topic here: https://youtu.be/BIguvia6AvM?si=DEUbCrnzWoKj6p65

The project is a collaborative effort involving many contributors, including the core team of @thomas_zahner, Kait Lam, and myself, as well as many others.

We also received funding from @nlnet, for which we're very grateful! Code contributions are very welcome.

@david_chisnall @cda Judging by some of the older branches, it kinda hit the ground running? This is the oldest one, last commit five years ago, and it was already relatively complete and moving increasingly sophisticated optimization, from the looks of it: https://github.com/lycheeverse/lychee/tree/simple-recursion

Kudos to the author; this has has been chugging along for a while.

Oh, and he’s on fedi….

@mre, lychee is getting a bit of admiration from new fans over here… nice work.
