In the middle of #NoKings day, Meta suspended the No Kings Coalition’s Instagram account. Tell Congress to investigate Meta's pattern of political suppression and hold tech giants accountable for any attempts to interfere in our elections: https://act.indivisible.org/sign/tell-your-members-congress-reject-tech-billionaire-influence-on-elections/

Trick or treating may have partly evolved from 'souling', a custom in which poor people would go around the neighbouring houses on holy days asking for food and drink. Many soulers were masked - a way to, literally, save face when requesting charity. At Christmas and Halloween, this custom first seems to have been centred on asking for special biscuits called soul cakes, but it eventually came to encompass any food or drink. By saying prayers in exchange for soul cakes, it was believed you could help souls in Purgatory. #MythologyMonday #history #folklore #Halloween #weird #mythology #31DaysofHalloween #gothic

"The most sensitive of those contracts – running the NHS’s federated data platform – is up for renewal and the mood music out of No 10 is that Andy Burnham is considering UK alternatives. That is also the context in which Palantir has hired a high profile politician to fight its corner: Tom Watson, the former deputy leader of the Labour party, and now Lord Watson of Wyre Forest. The man who previously took on Rupert Murdoch and spoke up about “surveillance capitalism” during the Cambridge Analytica scandal is now providing cover for a man who believes freedom and democracy are “incompatible”."

Sounds like a scene from a horror movie.

Hello Americans,

Today Meta has deactivated the Instagram accounts of the "No Kings" protests on the very day they are happening in the US. You can avoid Meta's fascist-defending shenanigans by following one of the main No Kings organisers on here instead:

➡️ @indivisibleteam

This is a textbook example of why it's a bad idea to rely on billionaire-owned centralised social media.

(Thank you to @tchambers 🙏)

Meta messing with Indivisible just as No Kings begins. SpaceX shutting down Starlink right when the Russians launch a deadly attack on Ukraine. Meta censoring Lula and promoting Bolsonaro days before the Brazilian election.

This is the future that big tech has given us. This is where we are today...
