So now we are in the future. People start their own autonomous agents that perform some activity. If you remove a person from the "world" in some way, "they" can still act - Mostly in the digital realm, but this ain't gonna last. You can bet that the deeper the pockets and the more paranoid, the more wild these agents already are.

It is happening right now. There is no escape.

(Me, whispering: Maybe the reason PHP is everywhere and in everything is that ease of use, ease of modification and ease of deployment are actually good things and making easy, fun things safe is way, way more important to real world practices and uptake than trying to graft ease of use and fun onto guarantees of safety that computing has never been willing, much less able, to really guarantee anyway.)

Using the USB serial support in the bare metal Genera port to talk to a Taylorix S4 which runs a custom FORTH port with a disk backup/restore and floppy formatting tool. #forth #lisp #cpm #retrocomputing

Masterscope was a Xerox newsletter for users of Interlisp-D and Xerox Lisp workstations. Its issues featured descriptions of Interlisp applications and research projects, usage tips and sample code, community news, and more. Bitsavers recently uploaded 4 newly scanned issues.

#RetroChallenge Day #1 and I've got most of the equipment in one place now. I've had this machine for a few years but never had too much time to dig into it. The system is an IBM AS/400, specifically a 9404-B10. This was part of the first wave of systems released and was the base model available.

@hanshuebner Would you be surprised to learn UTF-8 is supported in Plan 9 too?

Crazy shit: Zmail knows UTF-8, too

Genera has basic Mastodon and web clients now.

At this point this is just fascinating to watch... #llms #llm #ai

Genera running on the bare metal of the T490s, with a runtime written in Rust. It boots through UEFI and then takes control over all the hardware. Linux is running in a virtual machine, the Genera terminal emulator has been enhanced to support the virtual serial console port.

I'm not claiming that this is production ready yet, but I believe that I'll have it good enough to become my daily driver next week.

This should just be illegal with fines that will bankrupt the companies if they get caught. Gambling is highly regulated but nobody really cares about mobile apps or loot boxes.
