Wow - this image really clarifies the double-empathy problem in a way that text hasn’t (for me)

here's a study about recycled polyester being greenwashing as it pollutes more than new polyester:
https://changingmarkets.org/wp-content/uploads/2025/12/Spinning-Greenwash_full-report.pdf
the core issue is that mass of microfibre pollution is less important than count of microfibres – each individual microplastic is one risk of biological harm; plus larger fibres do less damage as bodies are better at filtering them out. so lots of small fibres is worse than fewer of large ones. and the polyester recycling process
this one table is particularly fun given the demonisation of Shein in particular as if it was different from Western brands. notice that the reason Shein is the only one whose recycled clothes don't have a higher fibre count is because they're probably lying about their clothes being recycled, as shown by (checks notes) the same item showing up randomly as "recycled" and "new" on different occasions

“Voting is the only non-violent weapon we have to make sure that our families are protected, the workers are protected, that the money that we pay in taxes goes where it should go: to help working people, education, health care, infrastructure improvements—for the things that we need to keep our country safe and secure and educated.
The only way we can change policies is by electing the people that make the policies… We can march and we can protest, but it’s not going to change anything. The only ones to change the policies are the people that we elect to office. So we should never deceive ourselves to think, ‘If I march, that’s going to make the difference.’ Yes, marching is good because we communicate, we have the energy, we feel powerful when we’re all together, but it’s not going to change anything unless we take that march to the ballot box.”

slings AND arrows of outrageous fortune?
In this economy?
telling a friend about the sound of a wild snail eating made me go back to the webshop where i bought it ( https://libro.fm/audiobooks/9781399419017-the-sound-of-a-wild-snail-eating ) and noticing it's not even marked as a book about disability.
No wonder I hardly ever stumble upon books about/from bedbound people.
Aside from the book I just mentioned the only other example I can think of now is 'we are the winter people', a poetry collection by Jenny Rowbury.
so please tell me, if you know other books about bedbound people (fiction counts too), or books written by them.
It needs to be an audiobook to be accessible to me, but i'm still interested to learn about books I will not be able to read myself.
I’m sad to say I’ve recently joined the “unexpectedly been made redundant” gang 😢
So I’m now looking for a new role where I can bring my 20+ years of frontend dev experience to a team where things like user experience, design and accessibility are valued and who still care about the 'craft' of building good things for the web.
If anyone knows of any teams who fit that criteria and are currently hiring I would greatly appreciate a heads up 🙏
sometimes i think about all cultures in the world whose mythology says the stars are just holes poked in the night sky, through which the light of heaven shines.... just like that, sometimes everyone i love feels like just a small glimpse of the same heavenly thing...
feels important to acknowledge that life is very good and nice for me right now. lots of wonderful things have found their way to me and i am grateful for them. the important thing is not to try to pin them down to a board like a lepidopterist. the important thing is (gritted teeth emoji) to treasure them for as long as they are with me
