Some #BlueWave shots from the archive…

Perhaps — and hear me out here — if you can afford to lose $474 million while trying to buy the midterm elections, you can afford to pay your fair share in taxes.

#Spiders closing has managed to make it to Look North news tonight!

I’ll be amazed if it doesn’t get sold as a going concern.

Google "our ai is so great, that we have to force people to use it. Including children"

The "argument" seems to be that since #AI is now linked to web search, you can't have one without the other. Because search engines famously didn't exist until a couple of years ago. 🤡

The reality is, people can be deluded into thinking that immigrants are evil, but it falls apart when they deport that one server who knows your kids’ names at the Mexican place, or the roof guy you always use, or the teacher at your toddler’s daycare. It falls apart when people open their eyes and realize how many of their neighbors are immigrants.

It also falls apart when food, and construction, and house cleaning, and ride shares all become unaffordable.

"Couldn't get a Republican elected in Texas" is the new "couldn't organize a piss-up in a brewery."

The Future of Jokes is out this week - I’m in Hanley at Drop City tonight, The Gate in Cardiff on Saturday and Komedia in Bath for a Sunday matinee #comedy #jokes #books #bookstodon

For those who don't know the joke here, google Elon Musk Path of Exile 2. He pretended he was some kind of elite gamer on a podcast, paid a child in China to level up his account, tried streaming himself playing the game but died at the first boss, rage quit, then tried again a few weeks later... when he rage quit after reading the chat, who were pointing out he didn't know what he was doing and was clearly cheating still.

Proper clown car stuff.

Today's #Muppets GIF of the Day is...

Beware the jabberwock, my son, the jaws that bite, the claws that... oh, you've got your headphones in. DON'T FORGET TO PUT YOUR COA-

Man I really hate the reentry gambling game. An injury or death from a reentry is a very low probability dice, but if you roll a low probability dice often enough bad things are guaranteed to happen.

And Swift is one of the good ones, they tried to boost it but the rescue mission by a private satellite company failed. Satellites larger than cubesats should be required to do controlled reentries.

And better yet, fewer satellites, each with longer operating lifetimes.

I find it interesting that ancient Egyptian art portrays almost everyone in the prime of their lives and wondrously healthy, because the idealized perfection is the point — but this painting of a boat construction crew shows an elderly supervisor, implying that his wisdom and experience for the task are just as ideal in a perfect world as the strong young workers.

The German govt is rolling out a digital driver's license:

https://www.heise.de/news/Digitaler-Fuehrerschein-kommt-Ende-November-11509430.html

And, from day 1 - in 2026, yes - it only works on OS images allowlisted by two American companies, Google and Apple. Sanctioned by the US government, like e.g. the ICC judges? Can't use your _German_ digital driver's license.

In any sane society this would have been flagged as a massive issue and have simply stopped the app from launching in the first place.

Change of plan. I wasn’t entirely happy with how bulky these end up being. Was in IKEA today and saw this new (to me) range of Zigbee dimmable LED lighting strips, intended for wardrobes and the like. They’re the perfect size and bright enough on full to give a decent working light level, and can be dimmed for night time operations. The spots are coming down.

EU's proposed Kids Act: age checks for social media, video platforms, chatbots, apps and games

adults treated like minors until they prove otherwise. ID document or biometric face scan

proof that it works? the Commission offers none

its own expert panel: "most minors find a way" around such rules

so everyone shows ID or face, and most kids get around it anyway 🤦

not child protection. new ID infrastructure?

why?

Rice crispies in Uk no longer to be made with rice grains and will no longer be gluten free. This seems quite a big deal to me. If you have food intolerances or worse. You may have safely eaten these for 50 years and no one reads the ingredients every time
