Today feels like a drink beer and chill out kind of day.

There's a part of me that enjoys "prepping", I won't lie.

I really like, almost on an aesthetic level, the idea of being as self-sufficient (by which I mean relying on myself and neighbours, not on shops) as possible.

I could justly be accused of "lifestylism" on this one, probably.

I followed a bunch of, uh, "homesteaders" back in 2020 during lockdown, and it's largely:

1: how to preserve veg
2: how to batch cook
3: how to grow herbs and use them
4: chemtrails and vaccines cause adhd and autism
5: how to look after your sourdough starter
6: how to cure meat

and it's like "uh huh, yup, makes sense, hit me, I've got my pen and paper ready, omg yes...wait, what, just go back a sec?"

After a week of being cooped up the dogs and I took a long #DogWalk. So of course it’s raining and cold. Apparently they were surprised to see us.

I wanna post something that I'm proud of. The other day, I completed a 10 km run across my city... in less than an hour!! I didn't intend to push myself very hard, but in the last 4 km, I had superb energy and chased the milestone. Wow!

Screenshots are from a GPX viewer app that I'm trying out (made by Vectura Games).

Having just discovered a new hashtag #TheWorldIsStillBeautiful I saw this piece of magic today when the freezing fog lifted for a bit and the sun tried to shine through.

One more memory from the Bayerischer Wald . Aaaand: this is one of the reasons why we like this region: it's so lush green and vivid and ... not so steep. The vegetation is just different. And so it's simply another kind of experience.
And that spot was just .. beautiful. The stream, the little path, the green, the light, the ferns, ... It's a good spot to just stand still and enjoy.

#BritishColumbia provincial election day is here.

If you are eligible and haven't voted yet, go vote! Polls open at 8am and close 8pm today, Oct 24. Once you voted, then sleep, because it's going to take a while to count ballots by hand.

Crows can evaluate visual info twice as fast as mammals

Birds' compact nervous system seems to help them handle tasks very quickly.

The downy woodpeckers are giving the birdfeeder a lot of attention. The other birds are mostly scavenging elsewhere. We enjoy whatever flying friends stop by for a snack.
