Hey everyone,
@casey and @aseelfromgz had the honour of speaking to one family from Gaza today and we’d like to welcome them to Gaza Verified.
They are:
• ahmedkhress (@ahmedkhress)
Please give them a warm welcome to Mastodon and to the fediverse, follow their account, and donate to their fundraiser if you can (and please share this so others can do the same).
Also, remember that you can find all our families who have fundraisers listed at the following page, ordered by those who have received the least in donations over the last week (on a rolling basis):
https://gaza-verified.org/donate/
Thank you for making Mastodon and the fediverse a safe space for our friends in Gaza and for your support.
💕

An #introduction seems in order, as a long-time lurker and more recent proprietor of a minimally active profile.
I'm a slow migrator from Facebook. I passed on the Site Formerly Known as Twitter so have no experience with hashtags, bear with me on that.
I live in a backwater college town in the southern US, and look forward to being able to move back to the Rocky Mountains. I enjoy #art and #photography, #baking, fostering rescue #cats, among other activities. Peace, y'all, talk soon.
I pulled apart a milkweed seed pod to experience all the textures.

When designing web pages, what's your default approach? (and please stick to the context. I don't need yet another CSS framework discussion ;)
My heart is heavy. Walter Koenig, our Ensign Pavel Chekov, passed away early today.
Walter and I met on the bridge of the Enterprise in the 1960s, and we stayed friends for nearly six decades. When Brad and I married in 2008, Walter stood beside us as our best man. Just last month, on Sept. 14, he turned 90, on the same day Brad and I celebrated our 18th wedding anniversary. I will always treasure that he and I shared that date.
Walter was more than Chekov. He was a writer, a teacher, a thoughtful man, and a loyal friend. To the fans who loved him for so many years, thank you. He loved you too.
Rest well, my dear friend. Keep navigating a steady course.

Another bit of software archaeology I did: I found what appears to
be the world's first "adventure" computer game:
> Wander 1974
> a text adventure creation system that dates back to before Crowther wrote ADVENT [1]
>
> Doug Merritt has found a copy of Wander buried in a software distribution from the Usenix 1980 conference. It includes all four games mentioned in my “lost mainframe games” post
https://bluerenga.blog/2015/04/23/wander-1974-release-and-questions-answered/
[1] wikipedia says Colossal Cave Adventure was 1976, so I guess
I played it not long after its first release. Well, one of its first ports.:

My comment if you drill down there:
> What, don’t you always snoop ancient mirrors 6 levels down and then unpack archives and scrutinize all the subdirs for anything that looks interesting? :)
After that blogger (Jason Dyer, @ jdyer@mastodon.gamedev.place, also
"Renga in Blue" at https://bluerenga.blog/about/) credited me, later
he also credited other people who also rediscovered it (it *HAD* been
distributed in an archive at a conference, after all), but when Jason
asked people to look for it, I was the one that found it and gave it to
him, as he said, regardless of anything else.

Dear fedi I'm livid. An acquaintance of mine almost finished college and after doing an *unpaid* six months internship was offered a follow-up contract for less than 500€ a month. If you wonder why European young people are mad that's pretty much why.
I'll be doing anything in my power to make sure he'll never work there so if you have an opening or internship for a young person starting his career let me know.
He'll finish the equivalent of a bachelor in computer science in May next year, has done some six months of hands-on work in security and is one hell of a worker. I can personally vouch for him. He's based in Italy and can do both in-person and remote work, and might be able to relocate to the NL and possibly the UK if need be.
Boosts appreciated.
It's critically important to teach your kids a sport. It will come in handy one day.
