Dang, he's been talking it up for months. "It's a disaster in these other fields but a godsend in mine" version.

Just spent a few minutes thinking about dusting off my Librarything account.

Saw there's a bunch of shiny new buttons.

Investigated a bit; main developer is thoroughly vibe-coding now.

Account deleted.

1) Do you read e-books on your phone and/or desktop?

2) Which?

3) What program do you use to read them?

Please and thank you.

(I would use an e-book reader or tablet if I had one but I do not)

Today, in "It Only Occurred to Me Just Now":

Pizzeria prices are much more reasonable when you realize that normally 2 or more people share a pizza.

Yes, I *am* a hungry man who also often goes to restaurants alone (but didn't last night).

Just read a summary of Linus Torvalds' experience with/advice about LLMs, and I am sincerely so sorry to every programmer watching this avalanche of sludge rolling down the mountain (who isn't excited to bathe in it, that is).

* They're indispensable (at doing things you could already do)

* He spent SIX MONTHS getting his (local model?) to work to his satisfaction, aka "correctly"

* No, he won't share it with you, waste your own time and money building a termite-infested brain extension

I am in awe of the reply I just saw on here. (trimming/paraphrasing the bare minimum)

Her: "if LLMs are alive, they can't be used ethically"

Him: "See, that's the thing, if they ARE alive, the things we're doing with them are deeply immoral"

Beyond mansplaining into manpeating.

I think everyone on Earth ought to be able to feel as much joy as they do pain and anger.

(I actually think the balance ought to be 99/1, but 50/50 would already be a massive improvement for so many.)

There is a post on Bluesky apologizing for what that person wrote on Twitter.

The top two categories of reaction to it, on Bluesky, are:

1) "falling prey to this sort of rhetoric is what being on Twitter does to you, please stop posting there"

2) "you shouldn't apologize, in fact you should say it louder, this rhetoric is awesome"

It's a very minor thing. I would trade it for even one person getting some relief from his fascist flailing.

But it gives me great pleasure to hear that Trump is still talking about how much he deserves the Nobel Peace Prize. Because it means having that one shithead donate theirs to him, and having FIFA shitheads invent a prize just for him, did absolutely nothing to make him feel better.

He is an empty husk filled only with sewage.

Question from a mostly-ignorant-of-programming person:

When folks are like "foobar just pushed an update, the Github repository is full of Claude now" (or however that should be phrased that actually makes sense), where are they looking that most easily shows that?

I like being able to check on these things on my own, but my hesitant stumbling around pages on Github has yet to bear fruit.

I don't really know how to search for this properly ... is there a way to make Mastodon show when a post was reposted, rather than when it was originally posted?

I have used the Vivaldi browser's built-in RSS reader for a couple of days now, and while it's not _quite_ as smooth to operate as Newsblur, I think it's definitely friendly enough that I can try actually switching to it.

I made all that fuss about needing to find a new RSS reader some months ago (spoiler: I didn't find one that seemed good enough that also didn't cost money I didn't have).

And only just now have I noticed that Vivaldi has an RSS reader built into it.

I don't know if it's any *good*, but I can test that.

If I wrote fanfic, my latest idea for one would be Bashir, a short while after DS9 ended, going to Jake and asking him about his protections for military whistleblowers.

Or maybe Bashir in 2401, learning about the postwar torture of Founders and considering throwing himself into the nearest star.

The world needs a good meme template for "opinion goes from X to Y with more knowledge, but back to X with even more knowledge" that isn't that awful bell curve one.

(as always if one exists plz tell)

The struggle when I've been told a YouTube video/channel is really good but the thumbnails are trying to drive me away.

At the peak of tulip mania, in February 1637, certain tulip bulbs sold for more than 10 times the annual income of a skilled artisan.

Honest question for my edification: if someone uses a phrase like "$3.24 of compute", are they definitely talking about Claude tokens (or some equivalent)?

I kind of want someone else to look at this just to marvel with me at the unreality of it.

Good Lord.

Saw the results for an online word game, Outlier, posted on Bluesky. Looked interesting. But I live in 2026, so I read the About page.

Forgive me for linking you to an almost certainly AI-generated wall of text, but I do think it's worth taking in the pure hubris of the whole thing.

Looked up the "founder's" name, and hoo boy is this ever some sort of plan to Make $$$$$ in The Future.
