Dude triples profit in a few years. Fixed the price of bread. Vertically integrated and turns grocery and pharmacy into a bear monopoly and then leaks all out personal data while gathering way more than they should so it can be sold or abused. Break up Loblaws. Tax the wealth. Cap profit in the sector at large. #cdnpoli

Applies to #Canada and Carney, too.

Disturbing but all-too believable. Both Trump and Netanyahu are narcissists, meaning no conscience, no loyalty. Each cares only about himself. They thrive in chaos and this analysis shows how they will benefit from causing global chaos. Global.

Corporations are inherently sociopathic and they attract sociopaths to executive roles. Explains a lot about #OpenAI and many other corporations...

I maintain that centrist liberals will be the death of us all, literally. Until they, personally are uncomfortable, they will block all progressive change.
Far from "driving the energy transition", the data centre boom is swallowing up the mineral resources that were once meant to be going towards building technologies that help eliminate fossil fuels.
Canadian policy suggestion. Housing.
Law that ties price of a home to no greater than 2.5x the national average individual income.
1975: income was $10-20,000; home: $20-$40,000.
(2-4x income)
In 2026: $60-65,000, home: $650,000
(10x income).
“Supply” isn’t what we need, we need affordability.

Computers were not a mistake.
The Internet was not a mistake.
The mistake was allowing everything to be about money and power rather than community building.

Chickens coming home to roost for some Americans. (Not the rich ones, of course.)
"Every thunderstorm they ask to be sure it’s not missiles. If we’re keeping too close of an eye on them, they are suspicious that something is wrong. That missiles could be coming to our new home back in the US. My children’s innocence was stripped from them.”
Yesterday, as I sat here, using a laptop running on Free software written and maintained by volunteers, to connect, by means of a secure tunnel formed by Free software written and maintained by volunteers, to multiple servers, all running Free software written and maintained by volunteers, to apply patches prepared urgently by volunteers to resolve security vulnerabilities, I felt *incredibly* grateful for every single one of those volunteers, who makes the fact that I could do *any* of this possible.
Thank you, genuinely.
The rise in anti-Muslim hate online isn’t your imagination.
A verified leaked memo confirms that in an effort to combat the plummeting public view of Israel, the Israeli government is spending hundreds of millions of dollars to crease increased fear and hate of Muslims through disinformation and propaganda.
Here’s how to recognize it and how to fight back with a commitment to universal human rights.

“Danielle Smith didn’t draw a line in the sand for UCP separatists, she instituted a gentle policy of ‘Don’t Ask/Don’t Tell’
Secessionists are still welcome in the bosom of the UCP – indeed, Alberta’s premier desperately wants them there – they just need keep their lips zipped for a while”

Trump is throughout the #EpsteinFiles almost certainly as a child rapist, possibly worse. Republicans - voters and politicians - stand behind Trump pretty damn solidly.
What does that tell you about the moral values of those people? Hint: not the same as those of decent human beings.
Hi all, I created a item in Mastodon's feedback system to help eliminate a major source of racism, sexism, and other forms of abuse.
Basically, the troll responds to a post with some insulting comment, tags it Followers, and then his followers pile on. Only the OP and the troll's followers see it. This is driving PoC, women, etc away.
Please boost for reach!

Years ago I followed Physics Girl on Twitter, and I remember her getting Covid (mild) and then Long Covid. She posted less and less and finally had to stop. Her desperation was palpable. She now estimates she's functioning at 30-40% of her former capacity. There are 1 million Americans who cannot work because of Long Covid. Don't get Covid. It is not 'just a cold.'

One benefit to all the #AI scaremongering is that it will probably create big demand for non-smart devices.
"Our experiments suggest that small AI models may be months away from being capable enough to self-replicate on commercial internet-of-things (IoT) devices, like smart ovens and off-brand Android TV boxes."
This is a great article.
