Tonight's white russian.

Good morning, Fediverse. Also, ACK ACK ACK! ACK ACK!!!

A little lunch date.

A bit of a photo dump here. Me installing Debian on a server this morning, my partner painting and relaxing on the couch, and our dogs. Also, the relay board mounted in our garage. It's hooked up to a Raspberry Pi and controls our sprinkler system.

We're still fixing up the house. Another day or two and it'll be completely done. It was just listed this morning. We're excited and nervous. The faster it sells, the better. The market is beginning to dip, rapidly.

Last night's twist on the White Russian. It was fucking delicious.

Moving. I hate everything about it. We're in the middle of selling nearly everything we own. We own a LOT of books, and we've been selling them like mad on Vinted

A few sunset photos, while out for an evening drive.

She came across my old dress greens, buried way in the back of our closet. So of course she had to try them on. I'm about thirty pounds heavier than I was when I last wore that uniform, so I couldn't squeeze into it if I tried. She practically swims in it, but it certainly looks better on her than it ever did on me. 😁

Out for a walk yesterday evening.

A BBQ happened. Chicken kabobs soaked in a fantastic marinade my partner mixed up, and then mudslides later in the evening. Side note: boba straws are fantastic for drinking mudslides.

Good morning, Fediverse.

Woke up this morning to an AQI of 157. Normally it's better in the mornings, 50-100, and then gets worse throughout the day. It was 183 yesterday afternoon. My eyes have been tearing constantly since we left the house two hours ago.

The smoke here is getting worse every year, and consequently, so is my asthma. Doing alright lately, since switching to some different meds. Still, we're going to have to move sometime soon, to some place that isn't on fire four months out of the year, because the effect it's having on my lungs is beginning to alarm my doctor.

We already know where we're moving to, and we've been making arrangements for about six months, but the actual time frame depends on how soon we can manage early retirement. We could do it as early as spring 2027, but we'd take a pretty big financial hit. It would still be doable, but the longer we delay, the better. We could fully retire in five years, with max benefits, but neither of us thinks we can wait that long. It's this balance of my health vs how well we can live after retirement.

Simply moving is not an option due to the incredibly fucked up way that our retirement and health care are attached to our employment in the US. Our current financial situation is complicated and infuriating.

Anyway, happy Tuesday.

I like to photograph minifigs when I get the time.

We got out on the water yesterday. The partner and I took my brother and our niece and spent three hours lazily floating through this winding river. It was a pretty great day.

Good morning, Fediverse.

It's been a while since I did a @3goodthings@fedigroups.social post, so here goes.

1) Great weather all week. Sunny, warm, with a nice rain in the afternoons.

2) I've been getting a lot done at work on old, back-burnered projects.

3) We're finally getting out and doing a bit of camping on the weekends. It's been a tough year for any sort of fun or socialization.

More photos from the weekend. Most of these were taken by my partner. It was a perfect weekend. This is one of our favorite places to go. It's small, remote and generally quiet.

The new Flickr app for Android is a definite improvement. That old one was long in the tooth years ago, and generally clunky and ugly.

Still so glad that SmugMug bought Flickr from Yahoo. They've saved the platform, and although it's been slow-going, it continues to improve all the time. The community seems to be bouncing back.

I'm technically working from home today, but it's been a slow day, so I've been out in the garage getting the teardrop ready for our first outing of the year. We've tried to go a few times already, but my partner's health issues have been working against us.

She's feeling better now though, and went up to find us a camp spot last night. She took one of the dogs, and spent the night camped at one of our favorite lakes. This morning she and Zoey got out on the lake with the paddle board.

She left her tent and a few other things up at the camp site, and is on her way back her for an appointment, and then we'll drive back up there together, pulling the teardrop.

Earlier in the week, we did a lot of work on the teardrop. We took apart the galley counter, laid down some laminate over the counter top, repainted, and I replaced an LED strip. We also took all the bedding out and washed it, as well as all the dishes and cookware in the galley and ran it all through the dishwasher.

This morning I put the cabin back together and touched up the paint on the galley. As soon as the paint is reasonably dry, I'll put the trim back in and restock the dishes and cookware. I hope to have it all done by the time she is done with her appointment, so we can just hit the road and be back up there with plenty of time to enjoy the evening.

More paddle boarding the river. It was a nice, lazy, two hour float.

We floated the river today. It was our first time taking our new paddle boards out. It was a great afternoon.
