Hearing people complain about GitHub's loss in performance and overall quality since Micro$lop took over...

Hmmm.

#smolweb #linux #bsd #freebsd Here is my honest opinion of trying to switch from Fedora to FreeBSD on a spare laptop: gemini://enemy.org/mrfusion/rants/2026-08-29.gmi.

I am definitely impressed at what the FreeBSD ecosystem has to offer! The last time I used FreBSD daily was when the version was less than two digits long…. Unfortunately, I need sound to function due to music and occasionally zoom/teams meetings. That was the only hitch, everything else felt solid and professional. I’ll keep checking back because the fact that 99% of my software suite worked and easily accepted my configurations was beyond amazing.

Does anyone else have recommendations for a desktop BSD experience where sound just “works”?

@leodurruti Ho trovato una cosa bellissima per te ….. da ora in poi questa è la preferita….

For any systems people that manage GPU's, this software suite still builds without issue on Rocky 10.x with Grace Blackwells: https://github.com/wilicc/gpu-burn/blob/master/README.md

TL;DR - this CUDA software is a quick way to test NVIDIA GPU's with basic health checks. You can run on single GPU's or all at once. While it is not meant to be all encompassing, it's a great way to add a health check to the hardware.

There's nothing more satisfying than the following:
1.) Browsing the smolweb, specifically gopher via Lagrange
2.) Listening to a mix from Acid Pimp that is pure acid house/techo, AND, almost 2 hours long.
3.) The nostalgia that comes back from items #1 and #2 above.

That's the link to the mix if you're interested.

Forgot to share the sunrise!!

This is what passes for "research" today... I'm just sofuckinghappy that our electricity bills, cost of RAM, water usage, and land grabs for corporations are rising through our roofs. #noai #fuckllms

Last day at the beach yesterday and we were able to watch some sea turtle hatchlings make their way to the Gulf of Mexico! The turtles are Kemp Ridley’s.
